Help Identifying a few SAKs Please!
on: July 06, 2017, 06:22:56 AM
 :climber:
I need some help from some of you SAK Savants!
I like SAKs. That is no secret, but I never knew there were soooo many different ones until I joined this forum. I scrounged up my SAKs, except for the swisschamp and swisstool, to see if y'all could help me identify them.
I pictured them as good as I could. The bottom left has a can opener screw driver tip that was ground down. The blue one had a chipped small blade and I ground it to be safer to use.

Thank in advance for any help. Especially the alox that has the three diff circular blades in the main tool.  :climber:

Those early blue Anglers are a bit hard to find and definitely worth holding on to.  :tu:

That is unless you want to send it my way.  :D

Many many thanks, jaya_man!

These SAKs are really growing on me now!
Cigar cutter...wow...that is kinda cool! :climber:

And the angler, that makes a lot of sense now!

Thanks y'all for the kind words and information! Jaya_man is the SAK sultan!
Now I need to keep my eyea peeled for more SAK goodies!

Have you discovered SAKWIKI yet  ???
It contains all you would ever need to know about SAKs ..... and more ...

Here is a link

When identifying a knife: Go manufacturer first (eg Victorinox); then length (eg 91mm); then number of layers (eg 4) - Find that page; Corkscrew or Phillips; Then start digging :)
If you don't get your knife straight away, check the related knives section at the bottom of the page/knife you are looking at, then find the knife that has the tool differences that match yours.

Aha - Just had a wee look at the Wiki
- There are the new tables at the bottom of the 'X Layer' pages, put there by Little Tinker last year. They match tools to SAKs by layer
You should find what you are looking for straight away !!

Alternatively just ask Jaya-Man -  It's much quicker  :tu:
......... But he doesn't always get it right ...........  :pok: At least not first time  ;)   :o

PS. Yes that old Angler with the bail (loop), blue scales, single spring scissors, and fish inlay is fab.
If you don't want it and The Cap doesna' want it - I'll have it

PPS. A very nice, varied, and eclectic collection you have there.

Thank you sir! I just bookmarked the sakwiki!
I generally don't sell my knives, but if I decide to do so, you two get first notice!
It is the best looking SAK I have, but does have that one blade that has been modified. Looks cool, but not completely original. I polished all the scales on the SAKs this morning with a 8" finishing(final low heat buffing) buffing wheel at 1400rpm, and they look fantastic! I use a variac to control the buffing motors. And feeling for any slight heat build up.
It is the same setup I use for plastic watch crystals.

- I will have to update it
- Folder Beholder found another fishy SAK (Angler plus saw) just recently too!!

So you sir, have a SAK that is not in the Wiki
Congratulations ! - That is rare I'd say !!

So there is - Well done JM - How on earth did you find that ???  :tu:

That's a beauty in the Wiki from ICanFixThat

But GLBM's is even older as it has the old style file, without the nail cleaner
- Hang onto it mate - I think you have a reasonably unusual and old SAK there !!
Not to mention a pretty one  :D

Thanks huntsman! I had a feeling it was unusual. It had all kinds of tiny dents in the scales(used as a hammer or something), but they sanded out and buffed beautifully. Will have to take a decent photo soon!
