Tang stamp question
on: July 22, 2017, 03:32:54 PM
Hi everyone!

So I got a free SAK with the purchase of another one yesterday.

It has got bright red eco handles, which I think means it's early 80's?

Anyway, one side is stamped:
VICTORINOX
switzerland
stainless
rostfrei

Strange thing is, the other side is marked:
ELINOX
switzerland
stainless
rostfrei

Is it common for such a SAK that is has got both Victorinox AND Elinox stampings with the same bottom text?? Never seen it before myself...

Also: awl without sewing eye, but this might not mean it's really old since it's an ecoline, right?

Nice.  I was hoping JazzBass would stop in and shine some light.  Glad you found what you were looking for.

Truth is I just love when JB shares his knowledge.

Nice score! :like: Yep I'd say you ID'd it correctly I have the other two, and one like the middle but the back is blank.  Definitely seems to be less common. Small blade is drop point?    :tu:

It isn't actualy, which is something I would've expect

Maybe it was sent in for repairs once.

You mean it is drop/spear point and not clip point?

So yes, small blade is drop point.

That would correspond w/ the '75 date, they switched to the drop point sometime in '73
