A Very Pleasant Encounter and a Good Trade
on: May 03, 2021, 07:27:01 AM
Hello Playmates,

Well in our MTo world of electronic friendships - and I guess also covid restrictions - I had the very unusual experience of meeting an MTo-er in person yesterday ....... And what a pleasant experience it was   :tu:   :D

It was one of our more recent, but very active new members - Echotech
We had exchanged a few posts in threads and PMs and had talked about some Wiki stuff and in doing so realised that we lived within a few kilometres of each other on Sydney's Upper North Shore - Woo hoo .... We said that we really should meet up sometime  .......   for a
Note why it is called the Upper North Shore I have no idea as there is no water within about 20k of us       ???
- Well I do know why really - It just means the area North of Sydney Harbour / The Paramatta River    :-\

Anyway ET made a post recently about a great deal he had got on ebay for what turned out to be an OC Farmer and Pioneer
https://forum.multitool.org/index.php/topic,35270.msg2234485.html#msg2234485
And I noticed that it contained a SAK that I was very interested in obtaining
- The silver Pioneer with the logo - Why?  ???  ............ I work for that company   8)

I had tried to get one of these on a couple of other occasions - But never been successful

So I PM'd ET and he very kindly said that he was willing to swap or to sell it to me - even though the silver Old Cross model was special to him
Thanks mate.   :tu:    :tu:    :tu:

Anyway we met up at a very nice pub in Turramurra - The Garage also known as Kipling's
It was a lovely coolish, sunny day - (it's well into Autumn here) and the pub has great beer and food - So we indulged
... And you know what we did not mention multitools or SAKs once .... Ok That's a lie ...... It was at least 50% of what we talked about

Anyway we agreed to do a trade and I got the SAP OC Pioneer - And he got a shiny new Nespresso Dharkan Pioneer
And here is the moment of the trade!!

Neither of the ebay SAKs was in great condition - As you can see from ET's image - However the Pioneer has scrubbed up pretty well - Hopefully the Farmer too  ...... And if anyone knows what I can do about that patch by the logo - Please let me know - Metal polish ?   ???

Great to meet you ET - We'll do this again and see if any of the other MTo Sydney siders can come along

very cool to discover we had so much in common, not least a taste for a fine ale...or 2...or 3 er 4, think I lost count after that    :drink:  ET

Don't worry, those that live on the actual shore are confused as well. Anything west of Frenchs Forest may as well be part of Dubbo council...

Shore Pfft.

In any case, I've had a few meals at kiplings. Great for informal get togethers....

Look at them happy faces  :like: :like:

About that greyish patch, I would carefully try some fine polish. I use those small polishing pads. What was the name of them again ?

Edit: attached a pic  :salute:

Nice one chaps, all that's missing a bucket of rust (or is that just the UK moot?)

Excellent post. I'll be up for a beverage meet when I'm back in Sydney next week. Currently riding the motorbike back from Cameron's Corner, where three Ozzie states meet: New South Wales, South Australia and Queensland.

Tough gig this holiday thing!!!

Glad to see actual human meetings haven't gone by the wayside!
