A good mechanic is hard to find.
on: July 26, 2017, 03:48:59 PM
Luckily I have found a great one. I've been pairing my Stayglow Mechanic with my Benchmade mini griptilian for a while. Unfortunately it hasn't seen much action.
I'm always resorting back to my Skeletool for work carry. In sort of a fear that I will need a multitool and I will be without one. Well today was such a day.
I was called in to do some trouble shooting on a locomotive but the parts were behind a locked cabinet door. No one had the key to access the door. I noticed it had hinge pins at the bottom. So I pulled out my Mechanic and used the Phillips to knock the pins out a bit.
Then used the pliers to wiggle them the rest of the way out. Once the door was loose enough I could reach up inside and use the pliers to back off a nut and remove the door. Used the awl to realign some pins and put it all back together.
I was very impressed by this little SAK today. And I soon realized that I wouldn't have been able to use my beloved Skeletool for this task. So I was even more elated.

A Vic Mechanic was my second SAK after an old Champion that I used for backpacking for years. Then I discovered the Tinker and Deluxe Tinker.
Now my Tinker is my constant home companion and the Deluxe Tinker (in belt pouch) is my away from home knife.  I retired my Mechanic when I found they had been discontinued :-(

The knife and the train please.
I can show a pic of the SAK but no pics  on the locomotive. It's is against FRA regulations to have an active cell phone on main line tracks. So no cell phone pics. They have in cab cameras that active when a cellular device is present.
Big brother is watching.

But here is a pic of the Mechanic

It's always a good feeling when you get to save the day like that. And that mechanic is just oozing with coolness.

I'm a big fan of red for SAKs but every time I see stay glow  :D it makes me happy.   Nice save with the mechanic.  These SAKs always seem to punch way above their weight.
