Grease your ball or not?
on: July 30, 2017, 04:46:40 PM
I just hitched up my trailer to my car to test the lights and noticed the tow ball is dry.

So my question is, do you grease your balls? Tow hitch to you guys over the pond

I've always greased mine as that's what I was told I should do waaaaaay back when I first started driving.

I assume, when you are not towing you use a truck nuts cover Kevin?

It's also amazing how 3 spiders managed to build a home in the trailer electrics plug. They were quickly evicted

Oh no, I think I do it wrong and grease if there is friction.  :ahhh

I am going against the received wisdom that you should grease your balls. I like mine dry. I don't have a caravan.

Use a tenis ball to keep it protected.

I wouldn't dream of having a greased ball  :ahhh

I was told many years ago that grease & dust = grinding paste.
(Not that you get much dust on your ball in the UK)

Also, when not in use I always use a ball cover  :tu:

I think the best option is to remove it when not in use. Keep it in a sock drawer or the like...

This is one the times where both the options of a DIY project and outsourcing it to professionals seems dubious..

What used to be called Castrol LM, but is now called Castrol multi purpose grease. The towball can get very hot when towing and this stuff just stays put  :tu:

Looks similar to EP2 that we use in motor bearings at work. That's what I have in my grease gun.

Thank you  :tu:

This. Alltough you could grease your balls between uses, and wipe them clean before use. Keeps your balls fresh.

First off, like Styx, my mind went straight to the gutter. Not that it ever left, and a special kudos for those who made it perverted. Nice job gentlemen.

Yes I do grease my balls. Also I clean my balls and put new grease on my balls. I like my balls clean and greased. What man doesn't?

Carry on men!
