Glad it turned out ok How old is Matthew?

This morning after breakfast I was asked by my cousins daughter if I wanted to take Matthew to the other farm to see a calf being born. Matthew was very excited so off we went. When we got there the calf had just been born but was laying on the ground and taking very shallow breaths. The cow was being kept separate from the calf at this point and was getting very agitated. For those who don't know, NEVER get between a cow and it's calf, it could be the last thing you do! So at this point I told Matthew to go and sit in the car and wait. I spoke to Richard and he explained that the cow hadn't yet bonded with the calf and the calf was really struggling to breathe. So back to the car and start explaining to Matthew that there was a chance that the calf wouldn't live for very much longer. Now I was pretty sure how he would handle this but hey, kids can and do throw you some curves now and then. Fortunately he took it all in and said it would be very sad if it died and left it at that.Much rubbing of the calf and hanging it off the gate by it's hind legs ensued and it cleared all the mucus that was obstructing its airways. Drag the calf into the field, let the mother loose and 30 minutes later the calf is on it's feet and suckling away quite happily. The little fella now has upwards of a 95% chance of surviving. Add to that a very happy happy Matthew and it turned out quite differently from the way it was looking when we first got there. If I'd had to I could have explained it all to Matthew and I know he will listen to me and take it all in, his mother on the hand would have caused a few more issues for me, 'you took my son and traumatised him by making him watch an animal die'. So all in all a good conclusion to this stay in Wales.
I don't think you're taking such a good conclusion... Show contentWales are way much bigger than cows! Imagine the mess...
