A tool enthusiasts night stand.
on: August 01, 2017, 06:03:20 PM
Doesn't matter where you keep your sharps and lights.  I keep mine on my night stand as well as my computer table and accessories stand.  Ok I also have a couple on my coffee table.

Looking at my night stand I have 2 lights.  My computer table has 3 lights, 4 SAKs, 3 fixed blades, probably 10 MTs, and a couple misc things.  My accessories table is where I keep my belts, books, note pads, and mail.  It's also where I keep my larger SAKs and folders.  On that table I have 10 folders, 3 larger SAKs, and 2 random SAKs.

When I went thru my reevaluation stage I cleared out all those tools.  I took everything away and contemplated exactly what I carry and how often.   I ended up with my 84mm Tinker, Leatherman P4, and Fenix LD02.  I kept my Charge TTi and my RAT3 along with my Zebralight on the tables as well.  I tend to use those so it made sense.

Over time however the tools I said I have now siting on those surfaces is funny.   How's they all come out of their storage?  Well truth is, while I have continued to keep my carry simple I still like gear and since I have some nice things and things I do like.........  They found their way back.

While most of the items apart from my reevaluated carry things are not carried daily or weekly they are nice to have in the open.  I haven't for example carried my Swisschamp in a long while.  I love that SAK so it sits proudly atop my accessories table.  I also have a second and third fixed blade that also sit proudly, waiting.

I guess all those tools sit.......  waiting for their triumphant return to carry duty.

I'm the same way, I try and keep things tidy and keep them in storage and the drawers I have on my dresser are for my more frequently used knives and tools. I tend to reach into my storage and find i don't put them back until the dresser gets full. I flip flip because I like to try different tools and blades all the time. What I may not want at the beginning of the year I may want later on and end up digging it out to play with it. I either need more drawers or a better way to stay organized. My poor wife supports my addiction but doesn't truly understand it. Least I got support!

Where are your go to MTs and such?

I also have a container with my "collection" that will not be used.  These tools were specifically bought for visual enjoyment.

My night stand, computer desk, and accessory table are all "edc items"

My night stand has a "desktop organiser" with a phone charging cradle, 3 extra usb ports for charging devices and some organisers.
It's used as a pocket dump and usualy holds my phone (and charges it), wallet, watch, light and SAK when I'm asleep.

My other tools are in my desk (the room, not the furniture.
They're stored in a display cabinet that stands next to my chair so I can look in it from my chair while sitting at the desk.
My most valuable (financialy and/or emotionaly) tools are stored in there. The drawers underneath contains the tools to maintain them, like sharpening stones, straihtening steel, extra display units, extra suspension clip etc.
The less valuable tools and SAKs are in a rotating Vic store/counter cabinet.

While away from home for a longer time (like now) the contents of the display are transfered to a safe.

My go to mt's are on my living room mantle. My bedside cabinet has an opinel, micra and squirt on it, and a fixed blade and torch in the top drawer. All my other mt's and saks are in my sharpening station (old office desk) top drawer.

Picked it up at a Container Store years ago. May have been in the toiletries section.

Found it.

Thanks to you enablers, just in the last few months my collection has grown. Started out with a Super Tinker and a PST II. I now have 8 Leatherman tools and 6 Swiss Army Knives just in the last 5 months! So I bought at a flea market an old metal box with clear plastic drawers - the kind used to organize nuts and bolts and various electrical components. Room enough in there for 16 LM's and SAK' s in individual drawers or some doubles. The box sits on a shelf in my wardrobe.

But some will linger on my nightstand.

Now I can go to it every morning and decide what to carry, like Batman picking out his equipment for a particular mission - or a radio DJ  making some musical selections for the program. Or a librarian choosing the best reading for the book of the month...Or...or like a guy with a tool addiction
