Alox: Silver, Red, or other???
on: August 04, 2017, 10:50:07 PM
I think I've changed my mind about this a few times.  I've been carrying my new black pioneer and just dropped it for the first time and damaged the once perfect black.

I think the black will age well though it have to admit I wish it was still perfect....

What are you guys thoughts on Alox colors?

Despite not being the biggest Alox fan out there, I just fell in love with the look of the Black Pioneer with Red Shield, so much so that I had to have one. :salute:

Red OC are the first choice.
Bicolor also preferred.
Silver and black also OK
Other colors are second choice.

What colour was the original SAK?

The first 1961 Soldier knife was red, changed 1964 or 65 to silver.

I know that it's not alox, but I was thinking of the 1908 soldier or it's predecessor.  :D

While all Alox colors look good (heck, even rose pink looks good, and I hate pink), I feel OC Red is what's best--SAKs are supposed to be red anyway.

I prefer silver for its clean look. But, having some color in your life is nice too.

I carry an OC Red Pioneer, Black Pioneer, Silver Soldiers, Silver Cadet.

I like them all but at the moment I'm awl about the Black Pioneer.

While I prefer to carry my Red Cadet, using the Silver as a fallback for both Cadets & Pioneers. I tend to save the other colored Aloxes (Black, Naranja, Blue, Green, etc.) and currently treat as collectors.

I like different colors for the collection.

For carry I'd go with silver.

I like all alox colors, with strong liking for OC+ Red and black...

I carry a black alox with red shield... not afraid it will get scratched as it adds character...

I do have another black alox with red shield that stays as a collection piece...

I wouldn't kick any of them out of my pocket for eating crackers.

Damn it- I had no intention of buying a knife this weekend, but now...

As I suspected, I think most people reserve their colored alox for the collection.  I do this too with many knives but at the same time, I think it's kind of a drag and I should carry them awl.  The black Pioneer isn't too hard to get and I feel liberated carrying it.  I decided to sell my vanilla silver Pioneers.  If I'm going silver, it'll be a Soldier or Cadet.    I'd planned to carry my green Farmer but couldn't bring myself to do it.    A big part of me wants to unbox and carry everything that isn't  more than 30 or so years old.  blah blah blah

here's some more blah about alox indecision via youtube:

If desired, some touch up could be done to your black alox...

Thanks for the link, probably should have done my homework, but hey, maybe someone will have changed their mind by now.  I view anything that's not Silver or Red in the same category so I made the poll that way.

Just added the part in bold so there is no doubts...   :D

P.S.: I like (to look at) some alox colors other than silver when they are new, but i absolutely hate the way colored alox ages, contrary to many here. I don't find a faded (rubbed off) and scratched colored pocket knife with bits of silver shining underneath sexy or good looking... Sorry...   :pommel:
