Dont laff at Skeletools !
on: October 22, 2008, 09:40:57 PM
A buddy of mine closed his above ground pool with just a large flat blade screwdriver and a Skeletool. He has all kinds of tools in his basement , just didn't feel any need for em.

I used mine a few minutes ago to snap down the tonneau cover on my pickup.  The cold shrinks it down so that it's near impossible to set up.  I have to clamp the pliers down and squeeze, putting all the weight I can muster into it.  It's done, but I have a nice blister brewing.

Its been said before, but its worth repeating; the very best thing about a Skeletool is that they are likely to be carried.

Other multitools may be more capable, but what good is that if they are back home on the kitchen counter? :-\
In order to be certain of having the right tool for every job.........one must first acquire a lot of tools

Since pulling a CX out of inventory for personal use I've found it hard to carry anything else.  I think J-Sews nailed it with the carrying aspect of the Skeletool.  I love my other MT's but the Skeletool is so easy to carry in situations where I might have chosen not to carry one of my "real" multi-tools.  Yes it's limited in use but I still love it.

I have teamed my Skeletool with an S4 Squirt and life is good. The Skeletool is tougher than it looks and I have one handed access to the tools I use the most. If I have a lot of "mechanicing/DIYing" to do I'll slap the Surge and Crunch on my belt. For everyday the Sleletool S4 combo is the best.

Sometimes I carry the Original Wave for sentimental reasons.

If you just need a knife and some screwdrivers I don't see why you wouldn't just pocket a SAK instead. :D

Silly Skeletool. =P

Yeah eh? I too find myself don't really want to carry anything else after getting the skeletool. I switched back to spirit a while ago but I think I'll go back to skeletool soon.

Agreed... the skeletool is a common EDC for me, and I usually pair it with one of my SAKS.  It really does disappear while you're wearing it which is great.  I usually keep checking just to make sure its still there!  And it has come through for me big time on several occasions.  It may be small, but sometimes big things come in small packages!! :salute:

Really? Or is my laziness at reading threads properly, leading me to miss the gag, exposing itself here?

I used to come here a lot.

I will say this...

The Skeletool is the first thing that Leatherman has put out in awhile that has me interested in buying one. For the last 5 years or so I have been a Swisstool for Life type person

So out of pure chance my Paratool and Skeletool found themselves next to each other on my desk...I started handling each one and began to wonder if the Paratool is "better" than the Skeletool.  They are almost exactly the same size when closed..

I have to say that I was almost swindled into buying the Skeletool on atleast four... seven... eight seperate occasions.

But everytime I thought about it there was no real reason...

It's a nice knife but I have knives.
It's got some screwdrivers but at any given time I have eight different sizes/heads of those on me...
Pliers... I've never really had to do EMERGENCY pliering to have to carry them all the time. But there's always a REAL multitool nearby.

Thus I've never bought into it. =(

I'm still tempted to, however, I do like the design.
It's still not a real multitool. :D

EDIT: Bottle opener isn't even worth mentioning. ::)

I was a little skeptical of the Skeletool at first, but after this past mowing season,I think it may fit my needs when I'm mowing.I do 4 yards,Mother,Mother-in-law,my neighbor and my own,and always have  a full set of dedicated tools and multi-tools just feet from me.But sometimes I'm just a tad too lazy :D to get any of them for minor jobs.

Well I thought I would bring this one back as well instead of starting another thread on the Skeley :D

I really like mine and between it and my SideClip I having been carrying 1 or the other since I got them when just out of the house or to town :tu: They both disappear in your pocket and I have found myself enjoying being able to clip them and really not notice they are there until I need them :tu:

I traded for a Skeletool (because I have more mt's and knives then money) besides I couldn't see parting with $70.00.

I thought it was a great tool, OH blade, nice selection of bits, nice pliers until I tried to use them to cut a security cable on a item and Wal Mart.

The pliers twisted and wedged the cable in the jaws. Grabbing the handles I tried to pull the jaws apart then the handles disengaged.

I had to take a screwdriver and pry apart the jaws.  All this was while the person stood there and watched me.
