Recommended surge main blade upgrade supplier
on: January 31, 2026, 02:23:13 PM
I’m looking to buy a spare blade for my surges, a first and second gen.

I was thinking in magnacut or m390.
I can not find any suppliers currently and also I have no way of testing if the supplied blade is actually of the claimed steel even if I could.

Is there a tried and tested supplier that any forum members have used before?
My trouble is i never show initiative, but that's only because no one has told me to.

There are some on AliExpress, but I cannot attest to their quality.

One of the top commenters tested the material and found it to be 420, which is what you might expect from this kind of supplier.  So buyer beware of course.

I think I might just buy a couple of spare waves and surges as funds allow just to cannibalise in future to keep my current users using.  I take it gen 1 and gen 2 surge parts are interchangeable and wave plus parts will also fit my gen 1 charge tti and alx.

I’m not a steel snob and don’t mind 420 or 1095 for that matter as I enjoy using and sharpening.
But if a trusted supplier was manufacturing premium steel blades with a good heat treat for the surge and wave I would very happy.

There are VG10 and Magnacut custom blades made for the Leatherman Surge available on Etsy. They seem to have good reviews.

I can’t see any on their at the moment and if cheap enough may take a punt as would not want to pay a lot of money for something that could just turn out to be 420 anyway. But then if it is cheap it’s more likely not to be what it claims to be.

So will probably wait for a trusted (by other forum members) supplier to materialise, if ever.

Not a Surge blade but I bought a couple of the PE and a SE blade for the Wave/Charge platform and have used those quite a bit and had no problems with them from Aliexpress  They had a Damascus look ground into them and are suppose to be VG10 core blades :tu:

One of each is in a Charge of mine that I carry often and the other PE blade is in one of my Charge knives :salute: have held quite a nice edge for cutting packages open among some other things

Chip.

See screenshot from Etsy.  There is a seller with good reviews making Magnacut and other blades for the Leatherman Surge and other models.

Cheers,

Thanks, I found this guy previously, but it won’t let me load any off his blades when I click on it apart for the kukri for the p4.

It’s been that way for a week or so and I don’t know why, it just keeps coming up there was a problem please try later.

Sorry to hear that, Chip.  I have not bought from this seller personally, though the offerings look good. Best of luck in finding something great as a replacement blade for your Surge.  Keep us updated if your hunt is successful!

The problem is Etsy limiting the results for knives in UK. The kukri one has just slipped through the cracks, he might have listed it in a wrong category. I know because for a long time my leather sheaths were not shown to people in UK, only other goods like wallets or bookmarks. People were finding my FB page and messaging me “do you ship to uk”, I’d go “yeah, sure, here is the link to the etsy shop to look around “ and they couldn’t see the sheaths. So we figured they’d message me on Facebook what they want, I’d make a listing “custom wallet for Alan to keep his Wave”. They now seem to leave my stuff alone, I’ve had some orders from the UK without those tricks.
Otherwise this guy seems pretty legit. Great reviews on Etsy, Facebook groups seem to like him too. If you are fine with paying the price, you can find him on Facebook and arrange him listing you a “can opener for Surge cans” in the camping category or something like that so it will be visible for you to buy. You can find him in the “Leatherman mod group” under the name Huýnh Kièt.
