Victorinox kit / set pouch guide
on: August 21, 2017, 01:54:09 AM
I bought a Traveller Set thinking I might be able to use the pouch and its compass with some other knives, but I quickly discovered that they are too large  :P.

While trying to figure out what might work better I couldn't find a single, comprehensive guide to the pouches and contents that come with the various kits, and it took me a while to untangle what is available.  To help others (and make sure I can remind myself later  ;)) I've assembled an overview based on what I gathered from various catalogues and websites.  They're listed in order of increasing pouch size.  Each pouch is available empty or filled, and these are denoted by a ".03" or ".3" suffix respectively.  The standard contents and replacement part numbers are also listed.

I'd be delighted to be told of any errors, so I can get a better sized pouch next time  :-[.

Looking for some of the kits on sites around here though, one cannot escape the feeling names differ between countries/ regions even more than entirely accounted for ...

It'd be great to see what the alternate names are, as the different names for the Expedition Kit were a part of what I had to work out to understand how things fitted together.

Took a quick look in the Victorinox web catalogue for Germany+Austria. At least today, this features the Traveller Set as the single available set, with contents as listed in the OP. However, the other kits mentioned by Little Tinker do not seem to be available on the site.

As of today the International, Americas, and Asia sites as well as all Europe sites except the Germany+Austria one (interestingly) have an Expedition Kit featuring what is dubbed the Traveller knife (not the Expedition Lite, but this may simply be a new/different name for the same knife?) which however is bigger than the Traveller in the printed catalogue (it includes a saw and a file, for instance) and the sharpening stone as well as the other items listed in the OP, but not the SC SOS and Survival sets.

At least on the Victorinox site my quick survey has not revealed any trace of the SC SOS and Survival sets (please do correct me if I'm wrong). These do seem to be available via certain known online resellers or specialty shops, however a complete survey on availability is impossible. Where available, it appears that the contents match those listed in the OP.

Oh yes: the names apparently do vary, but this is very limited and mostly due to language issues (e.g. "Kit Expedition" in French).

Thanks for the initiative Little Tinker!  :salute: Where did you get the spare part numbers? If anything, only a fraction is even made available online (differs between markets).

All the above is taken from various catalogues and sites spanning the last decade or so.  Some are wholesaler, and some for us end consumers.  Most have some but not all the info, hence the consolidation of it all.
