My two layer 84 mm golfer variant mod. Pure coincidence or luck that the front scale has my initials. Looked on Sakwiki, but did not not find a variation produced by Victorinox. Find this odd since it really makes a great two layer that just disappears in your pocket.

Is an Exec 74 1 layer with stacked tools, or 2 layers?

Oh boy, we've been having this discussion in another thread. To me, it's a 2-layer because there are dividers between the tools.

Yes, but it’s like the designer wanted to create ambiguity by making the middle divider present at each end, but not in between!

 :dunno:

For what it’s worth, I side with 2 layers for the same reason.

After having my first one for all of a day, I find it the most, maybe the only confounding Swiss Army knife EVER!

Really a strange tool. I open it up and cannot think of a reason to have, and keep it. Can’t for the life of me figure out why I impulsively ordered it on sale for $25, when I could have picked it up on EBay used for $15.  ???

And yet I cannot stop filing and cleaning my nails and imaging filing a cap lifter into one of the tools, and liking how much longer the long blade is the blade on my 58 classic, and wondering WHY they put a small blade  on it, instead of something. ANYTHING else!?

It’s like the koan of Swiss Army knives. It is cryptic. It says I will not explain why I exist. You must formulate the questions and the answers why?

It is the cutlery equivalent of THE GLASS BEAD GAME in Magister Ludi.

One can not even be sure there are any questions it answers, except for those you may invent yourself.

I have always liked and hated puzzles. I believe I have purchased a puzzle...that looks like a SAK.

Well, I love mine. And I think you love yours. And I think I know its appeal...

It's the snob factor. Like 28 gauge shotguns....nobody needs a 28 gauge shotgun, when a 20 or a .410 would be better for some reason or another. It's because you can, and it's neat, and it's nifty, and it's suave and genteel and prestigious and gloatworthy. It's elegant and debonaire. And besides, orange peeler!  :woohoo:

I think you may be exactly right. I have always fancied .28 gauge without ever thinking about .28 gauge either.

Thx.

So: I think I shall get out my old dinner jacket, standby the fireplace, light a cigarette, withdraw my Executive, push back a cuticle and say, “The name is Bond. James Bond.”
