Just came across some of this guys paintings, blown away by the detail, they are not photos, but oil paintings, unreal what can be done with oil and canvas, heres a few samples, google image for more, cant believe I never saw them before today:

I'm sure the average person on the street wouldn't be able to tell the difference.
