Leatherman Core handles Really Loose.......
on: November 20, 2008, 02:25:34 PM
I have a leatherman core that I loved but it started getting really loose in the handles. I can swing it like a butterfly knife. Its really awkward using the it as a screwdriver because the one handle keeps falling down and it makes it a little awkward.
do they all get really loose like that eventually or do I have a bad one?.

Thanks in advance.

Core handles usually don't get loose like that. It can be a safety issue for sure. Best bet would be to package it up and send it back to Leatherman. They will repair or replace the tool under warranty. Good luck!  :multi:

With the right tools you could snug up the screws and re-Locktite them, which should get rid of the sloppiness. But.....

best send it in and let the pros do it for you. 8)

ME TOO! I miss the scissors and mini driver. Now I can decide what to mate it with. Squirt S4? Climber? Classic? It's endless....

Thing is a beast tho. I love it.
Fan of the Leatherman mini-bit driver and the Vic backspring philips.

definately go with the squirt. I have one on my keychain. It is awesome. I had the micra years ago, but the squirt is so much nicer. It feels much better in the hand, and its a tiny bit smaller than the micra..

The Core is by far the Favorite tool I have in my arsenal. I use mine really only at work and it has never let me down. I am glad they will fix it, and send it back to you.

i have a core and I find that the so called looseness to be a good attribute. The tools themselves lock tightly and securely but the arms in which the tools are house open freely when I swing them open like a butterfly knife one handed I can open and close any feature needed for whatever task single handedly. This is a plus while working and needing your other hand for other functions.  I swing mine and complete the opening procedure on my leg then pull the tool I need out and then close the tool properly so that only the tool I need is in the open and locked position. that way I can work and the other arm does not come down and hit my hand posing any threats. Once finished I can very easily open the legs again like a butterfly then press the button on the back with the back of the extended tool against my leg and close. Then swing the tool closed all within a few seconds.
