My first MT
on: October 07, 2017, 07:02:28 PM
This probably counts as my first multitool.  I found it in my Dad's garage with his tools.  I got this when I was about 10 years old (i.e. over 40 years ago).  I probably thought it would be useful for Boy Scout use when camping.  :D

If I get round to cleaning it up I'll post more pics.

Nice! Worthy of a cleanup :tu:

After a very quick rub down and wash I found the blade is marked 'Japan', and nothing else.  The scales are probably plastic, so I think it is a cheap copy of the Moki Sakurai style hobo knife.

PS: the blade is still sharp --- I just cut myself!   :twak:

Nice hobo tool! Don't forget to request your hobo badge!
I have nearly the exact one, but with jigged bone handle. Pretty cool early hobo knives!

Edit: does yours have "stainless steel" stamped on the backs of the fork & spoon? I bet it does!

I have one identical to yours, it was my father's tackle box knife (and scout knife). I used one of the modern Coghlan's Hobos as a Scout knife, and it remains in my mess kit. Why no one has made something similar today is beyond me. Wenger did make a utensil set for the Swiss Army, but Vic has been hesitant to add forks and spoons to their knives for sanitary reasons, even though they now make a knife made specifically for food and drink (Wine Master).  Aitor, and I think Adler too have made SAK-type knives with forks, and spoons too I think.

Aitor in my country has and makes many models with forks, and food related items   :salute:

With that amount of rust in the blade?! Be sure to clean up the cut and desinfect it!

It wasn't a deep cut, and I'm still alive.   ;)

I haven't been back to this to do any more cleaning, but it's been sprayed with WD-40 and had oil liberally applied, so when I get some more time I'll really go to work on it.
