Very cool, BCL!  Is the dial DOXA-branded as well as the movement?  Let's see the front!

YES SIR IT IS! So I found if I rotated the crown clockwise it would start ticking but randomly stop. I pulled the case back off and while admiring the inner workings noticed the movement kept chugging away. I reinstalled the case back, separated the dial cover(?) and cleaned up all the dust and debris and found high spots of corrosion stopping the seconds hand. I used the tweezers on the Smokey tinker to smooth the high spots without damage to the dial and Voila! Still running after 10 minutes. Info found online stats a case back serial of 40xxxxx is built in 1940. this one begins with 24xxxxx but somewhere in the history the records were lost. Using the Champion magnifier, located under the balance bridge was 1720/12 CAL10. I'm sure that the movement but unsure who the actual maker is being DOXA didn't make theirs in house (from my research).
Sorry for the long post but I'm really getting into Horology and watch mechanics/repair so this stuff intrigues me!

Awesome! I wonder if there is a way to clean up the inside, polish the glass and that kinda stuff. This would be an awesome addition to your EDC  :woohoo:

Currently in search of! Its not a mineral crystal, it feels like plastic? Acrylic? The hands are the bothersome part. There is rust on them, be great if they were clean.

Hm, wonder if there is someone who restores watches like these. Question is what the price point will be

Seems to be pretty pricey. All in all the dial crystal is discolored but once opened the dial itself isn't so bad. Perhaps some polywatch? :dunno:

I have my great-great-grandfather's Zenith p/w and it has a plastic crystal.  It was made in 1912, so, yes, they were using them that early.

I'm sure you could find someone to service it for you, but I suspect you'd spend $300-$500 and that's if you don't need parts.  Send me a PM if you'd like the name and contact details for the guy I use, BC.  He's in Pennsylvania, just FYI.

Thanks Myron, Currently since cleaning it’s been reliably ticking away 15 seconds faster than the invicta which sports the NH35 movement.

Lovely pic, Sir Vic!

IReminds me that I have an old Seiko 5, so here’s a pic of my EDC combo of yesteryear, some 39 years old now! My old Seiko 5 and my first SAK, the Master Craftsman/Astronaut (it had blurb saying how it was used as a piece of kit on space shuttle missions by NASA, sadly since lost along with the box when my parents tidied up whilst I was away at university....) now sporting blue + scales to replace the badly scarred originals - the metal bracelet on the Seiko also suffered badly getting knocked on metal shelving over many years of use in a supermarket when I stacked shelves to pay my way through university and is long gone, though the Perspex watch glass has cleaned up nicely with Brasso and all the scratches are gone, leaving only a small crack which no amount of polish will remove! Given it’s cheap price (it was less than the SAK!) it was surprisingly accurate and lasted me 11 years before getting replaced with a mechanical TAG Heuer Which I gave to friend some 6 years later after he was mugged and had his watch stolen - I was after a “new” secondhand in any case at the time from Austin Kaye on the Strand (anyone else remember them - used to be one of the few places to get good secondhand watches before the internet?), an Ebel Voyager since sold on for a small profit!

Any how, enough rambling, and here they are, the fruits of my labour in Tesco in autumn 1981:

Very cool Riz. My parents would throw everything away, I know how parental clean-ups can go.

Very nice! The more rounded cases of the newer Seiko 5s are certainly an improvement on my squarish one! Interestingly, after running for 24 hours my old Seiko 5 is only running 20 seconds or so fast....
