Help me choose my next MT
on: November 26, 2017, 02:28:05 AM
Time to add a new Leatherman to my collection. Currently have a JPST, PST, OG Wave and Original Super Tool.

I like the OHT and the Surge, but what do you guys and gals think? I enjoy having one hand opening on the knife of my MT too. Thanks in advance!

If you feel the urge to purge your wallet, the Surge is an MT Titan! One of the best heavy heavy duty MTs.

SURGE!!! or the Wave 8) either one of those is great  The OHT is pretty good but not one of my favorite LM ::) :D

Also a Rebar or Supertool 300 as they are both a couple favs of mine as well ;) :like:

Is it wrong to recommend a Spirit in the leatherman section? just carry a seperate OHO. They are better steels a lot of the time anyways. You dont get the hype here about the spirit until you try one.

I have both and like both.  :like:
The main thing I dislike about the Surge is the handle splay as it wants to slip out of my hand. I prefer the more parallelness of the OHT pliers when closed.

The Spirit is a fine tool. I own one and carry it when I am off work, but a heavy duty Leatherman it is not. The swisstool is closer, but not nearly as rugged as the st300 and surge.
A LM vs. Vic debate isn't really what The Wanderer was asking for though. :pok:

Seeing how you have the classics why not stay in that lane?  I would suggest a ST200 or Pulse.  The locks are neat and the tools are pretty cool too.   Maybe take a look at the Core?

+1 for a Rebar or going a little lighter and getting a Juice.

Thanks for the suggestions folks. I already have a Swisstool and a Spirit. I've ruled out the OHT since I've read some bad reviews of QC issues with the OHT. So it is narrowed down to a Rebar, Wave (I want to try a new Wave), or a Juice.

Then I’d definitely go with a Wave, absolutely adore mine and it has never let me down so far

maybe I'd go for the Wave as it's the most different from your current LMs, but my personal favorite would be the Rebar
Can't go wrong with either!  :salute:

Well, after several days of exhaustive research, I'm agreeing most with SteveC and Aloha on this, I prefer the older tools, I'm off to find a Supertool 200! Thanks everyone who chimed in!

Nice choice.  The Pulse is also a nice tool.  I looked thru my tool and apparently I sold my last ST200 .  The ST200 is pretty cool.  Those rocker locks were a neat idea but for those with soft hands not so much.  The fun part of trying tools is trying to older ones. at least it was for me.

I was going to recommend the SURGE as you mentioned you like ruggedness and one hand opening knives.

Other than that I really like my Rebar.

Now I see you want to stick with the classics, of which I have several and love them.

I have two ST originals, and would love to pick up an ST 200 as well. My nephew has one. Good choice.

+1 for the Core. It usually does not cost a lot on eBay. The ST200 and Pulse are cool designs, but the locks can be annoying. The Core is just a clean design.

You can't go wrong with any of the old school designs (well to me anyways ;) )  Hope you can find one for a decent price :tu:

Just remember if you have trouble using the lock releases on the Super Tool 200, you have the option of releasing the blades the same way as the original Super Tool. Just open one of the other blades to 90 degrees and the locked one will release.

Core would be a awesome choice. There is a store by me that actually still has them new on the shelf,  $72 bones tho. Good luck with your decision!
