Story time

My first multitool was a Gerber Multi-plier that I received from the Navy in the mid-90s while managing the server and network infrastructure for a command staff.  I used it frequently, but I didn’t become a heavy multitool user until I purchased my house.  As all homeowners know, maintaining a house is a ton of work, and my Gerber Multiplier always rode in my back pocket while I did it.  I can’t count how many hours it must have saved me from running back to my garage for a tool.  I bought some other multitools over the years, and some were even objectively better (e.g. a Wave), but I always stuck with the Multi-Plier, probably because I was used to it.

Fast forward to May 2020.  I had a leak in the water pressure regulator in my garage.  I had a plumber come out and fix it, and I discovered a couple days later that he also stole some tools from my workbench, including my Gerber.  I tried using my other multitools (Wave, Skeletool, MP600, etc), but none of them felt quite right.  It was then that I started doing a lot of research on multitools, trying to find one I loved as much as the Multipliers.

I bought several multitools over the next year, but there was always something that bothered me about a tool – the size, the tool selection, etc.  After a year of not finding the perfect tool, I decided to try to modify a tool, and that’s when I stumbled across Multitool.org. You enablers, along with having extra disposable income due to the pandemic, led to an explosion of my tool purchases and to the collection I have now.
I recently realized that I never got around to replacing my original Multiplier with a used tool from eBay.  At this point, it’s a must-have for my collection... so here it is!  It feels just slightly different than I remember, but this is the same version that I used for decades.

OG Supertool was my first LM and I carried it for many years without issue.  Maybe if I wasn't carrying it for work reasons I'd have been tempted with something else but for what I was using it for nothing else at the time would have been better.  With that said; in my current life I've not felt the need for a heavy duty MT in a long time so a Multiplier is far more likely to find it's way into my pocket.

Nice combo and good thinking  :like:

Well... I seem to have posted in the wrong thread earlier today because I thought I owned a MP600.

https://forum.multitool.org/index.php/topic,52129.msg2443259.html#msg2443259

I posted about how I've owned a Gerber multitool for 25 years or so now and didn't realize what I had... and didn't even really think of it as being a multitool! I've linked the thread and won't repeat all the text of it here... but I will repeat the pictures!

So here it is - I bought this when I was 15 or 16 years old, which was in 1997 or 1998. I'm the only owner and it has been kept in its pouch and only used a few times per year since that time...

I'll be joining this club soon as I have a couple in route in nice condition.
But curious, as I just bought this one in very used condition, since I thought it would make a good candidate to try my cleaning skills.
Would you have bought it?  Might be a $15 mistake...we will see.

Glad to have you both here Lisa and Vicman!   I just missed out on a nice Mr. Pinchy but I'm just getting started Gerber wise.  I have a single black oxide MP 600 that I got because it reminded me of my Army days and I love the oho style tools.  Just like Vic and Leatherman, this is a collector's spider hole

My first one arrived today so I can put in my request to officially join the club.  My MiniChamp had to open the package because I'm in that challenge until midnight.  :hatsoff:
