When i saw these things, I decided I'd like to try one, but I'm cheap, so I made my own from some old scrap metal in my garage, and a bit of elbow grease.I pack mine in what used to be the back pocket of an old pair of jeans. What I found was that they are pretty dirty. They soot up your cookwear. They're a little hard to keep going, because they create a lot of ash and garbage that's hard to clean out while the thing is going, so you end up with a really short cook time. Good enough to boil 2 cups of water, but don't expect any more.I don't know the gauge of the metal I used, but I'm guessing it's 'tank armor'. It weighs about 7 oz. It packs nice and flat, though. If I had to make this thing again, I'd make it maybe an inch taller to get better draft and more space in the burn chamber. I'm sure the commercial ones have better proportions.
sorry Dave, immediate thread derailment it's the MTo way
Big fan of my Emberlit Fireant, haven't had Lynn's issues at all. Can easily cook for a good long while, not too sooty, etc Works really well.
