BRS ultralight titanium hiking/backpacking stove

I got a backpacking stove for Christmas. It's a BRS Ultralight Titanium ... something something... Long search-engine friendly name.

It weighs 25g (just under an ounce). I put it on my Amazon wish list, where it was under $20. It's gotten some great reviews from through-hikers for 'budget gear'.

I did my first test with it today and got 2 cups (about 500ml) to a boil in 4 1/2 minutes. That was room temp inside, with the water being about 55F (13C) when I started. There was no wind. No lid on the pot, and no windscreen to funnel the heat. I thought that time was pretty impressive.

I also don't think I had it cranked wide open, because... frankly, it seemed like a toy, and I'm a coward. 

It cooled down very rapidly, and I disconnected it from the fuel canister probably a minute after heating the water.

Here it is with a 91mm SAK for scale. It comes with the little stuff-sack shown beneath it.

No. I think I'll just use some triple layered heavy aluminum foil when I take it out to test.

I have a cheap Chinese version of this stove and it seems to work quite well. I got the stove and a pot set for under AUD20

This stove has been getting a lot of love lately.  I think being ti has something to do with it ( light weight ) and the low price under 20 dollars.  I have a under 10 dollar stove and it rocks.  Had this stove been out at the time I would have gotten it instead.  I'm not ultralight but I do like that its ti.  Nice pick up Lynn.

I think there is ONLY a cheap Chinese version. There IS a more expensive, similar stove, but the one I showed, the BRS, is Chinese made. It's still loved, though.

I'm not the biggest fan of titanium. I think it's great in some applications, but I think people tend to focus too much on weight, instead of weight savings versus added monetary cost. HOWEVER... I didn't have a stove, AND I didn't buy this. I got it for Christmas. My relatives are always looking for those $10-20 gifts to get me, and what I got this year were 2 CDs, a Disc Golf Disc (those run $8 used to about $18 new max) and this stove. So it was something I thought would be great in that affordable gift range. Also, in the event of emergencies, we still have a way to cook food.

I am slowly putting together the gear to do a hike. I kind of feel that I am rapidly approaching the age after which my body simply won't handle long hikes anymore, and I dearly want to do another one before I get to that point. My two older brothers both have wrecked joints from hereditary arthritis. It's probably only going to be a matter of time before it gets me. So, while I'm not really AIMING for ultralight, I think it will help.

I've been wondering about these. I have a Primus Classic Trail and a Coleman Peak1 - both butane canister stoves. Not the old Peak1 multi-fuel. These were both at or under $20 at Hilton's Tent City and Wal-Mart respectively. They do a great job, but neither seems as light or folds so small as this one.
