I have no problem with my messenger bag/haversack/satchel/man bag etc...At first I had one to carry around stuff for my baby girl but now she is a bit older I use it more and more for my own ends.  Things like a first aid kit, monocular, spare batteries, camera, novel, pen, notepad, cold drink, chocolate bar, the list goes on and on.  I'm not sure that any of that list sounds too unmanly.  Long live the bag I say. :salute:

Gotta back up the Doug Ritter psk kits. I use them teaching and love them to death.. They fit nicely in the back pocket and you will never know it is there. I just sent Miko one.

Alright you apes  :D  I cannot see why anyone except a tech support or emergency-response person would carry such a thing. Leaving it in the car is one thing but actually slinging these things around? .....    ??? ???

I can only say that my necessary kit is not really pocketable. I find things in my pockets to be irritating unless limited to a wallet and some folded papers. So for me, a bag is actually necessary. I have to inspect jobs, measure jobs, make repairs, etc. Those items alone are a pain to pocket.

I freely admit that I carry more than I need to, and that the bag is the reason I am allowed to do so. So it is circular really:

I have too much stuff for my pockets. I need a bag to carry the stuff. The bag allows me to carry more stuff. Now I have far too much stuff to fit in my pockets.

In the end, I will openly state that what was once necessity has turned into habit which has now morphed into security. It is a security blanket. I'll own up to it.

My EDC bag is 50% useful, 25% just in case, and 25% sh!t I just like to carry because now I can.

On one of the EDC forums there are pics of these exceedingly elaborate bug out bags that these cats actually carry all the time. I mean.. we are talking about huge bags filled with everything under the sun.

I was once asked about my own bag and why it is so spare (relatively of course).

I replied that in case of EOTWAWKI, I will only EDC a rifle and some ammo. The puzzled responses and questions led me to follow up with:

"So I can shoot as many of you smurfs as I can as I travel and steal all your gear."

I don't visit there anymore.

Oh, for sure. The real struggle will be to survive just the first 2 weeks. After that the mass die off will leave plenty of available meat and little competition for it provided you have no qualms regarding eating "long pig".

I suppose the gathering and butchering would be repulsive, but..

Once it is smoked and dried, and once you are sufficiently hungry..

It good to be religous ::)

Some run from breaks of ice, and answer none:
And some condemned for a fault alone." -William Shakespeare, King Lear (1608), Act IV, scene 6, line 169
