A place for the LM micro screwdriver?

Well, it happened again. I was taking off my glasses and one of the lenses fell on the table. Luckily it didn't happen outside or while driving. Those pesky little screws just have a habit of wiggling loose and then this happens. For glasses only I have the LM micro screwdriver with me, either with the Wave or in the bit kit, where there's a dedicated slot for it. For very delicate work, like tightening screws millimetres away from €500 lenses, I find it best to take just that tiny bit and use it without a handle. The Micra has a driver that fits some screws, but seems that the screws that hold the lenses get smaller and are often recessed. And the nose pads have Philips head. So that LM bit is perfect.

The complication is that - EDC be damned - sometimes you only have your wallet and keys. So I've started carrying the micro bit inside the SwissCard, in the knife blade slot next to the blade. Not ideal having a metal bit chafing against the blade. I wish I could keep it in its own slot but it doesn't fit. Don't feel like making extra holes in the SwissCard, and the bit is double headed, so.

The bit is not needed often. But sometimes it's indispensable. I prefer it to a Vic micro driver because it's double headed and flat. Has anyone worked it into their kit? I could tape it to a disused plastic card, but I only carry cards I use all the time.

There is a guy on YouTube - I can find the details if you are interested - who has made a miniature tray that the LM driver sits inside, and that you can push into the toothpick slot on a Cellidor SAK. He sells these, but has also made the required details available free of charge for those who have a 3D printer and want to make their own. This would probably work in a Swiss Card, if you could do without having your toothpick.

I think I've seen that. Yeah I can do without the toothpick. Maybe make my own ghetto version of that idea.

I reckon you could do it by taking a toothpick, cutting most of it off to just leave the butt end, and then drilling a small hole in the butt to make a socket for the LM driver. Hard part would be getting the size of the hole just right to grip the driver.

I’m partial to the Vic mini SD myself.

I’m assuming the 58mm combo tool is too large for this application?

You might buy a 3 pack of these inexpensive eyeglass repair kits at Walmart (or similar), and keep one each at home, work and vehicle.

I reckon you could do it by taking a toothpick, cutting most of it off to just leave the butt end, and then drilling a small hole in the butt to make a socket for the LM driver. Hard part would be getting the size of the hole just right to grip the driver.

OK, I think it is simpler than that, no hole needed.  Just cut the toothpick off just below the little bump that makes it stay in the socket and use it as a cork. The shaft in the card looks long enough to accommodate the LM driver as well. Though this way, it would rattle around a bit.

My thoughts exactly, until I remembered my Swisscard lite has no toothpick...  Pen, pin, tweezers.

EDIT: Just been playing with a LM driver and a Swiss Card. For versions with no toothpick I think your current solution of putting it in with the knife is the best one available. And it's not bad at all!

Just get a Vic eyeglass screwdriver and add it to a SAK with corkscrew. No tray needed, it takes up no space in the corkscrew, and is much, MUCH easier to use than the LM one.

It is a better tool, but as I explained, I want one that can ride in my wallet. For several reasons, wallet and keys are the only items on me at (nearly) all times. So I'm spitballing creative ways to carry this little sliver of steel without a larger tool like SAK or MT. I have a Rambler without scale tools in my keys, so no help there. But I already have the Swisscard for when my keys are in my jacket pocket - redundance (second light, blade, scissors, drivers, pen...) so it would be cool to integrate the micro driver into the card.

And for tiny screws like glasses, no torque is needed.

Maybe switch to a Rambler with scale tools, then use the toothpick trick from previous posts to integrate the small LM SD?

Does your wallet not have any seams you can tuck the bit into? Does it have proper pockets? Post a picture of it. Does the Swiss Card go in a credit card pocket? Put the bit under the Swiss Card. Surely you can tuck the bit somewhere in an entire wallet. If not, sew something on it yourself. Sew a tiny patch of elasticated strap somewhere and it'll hold the bit just fine.
