I have been carrying a Leatherman T4 and Knipex 125 mm Cobra pliers.   Below is a photo of other 4" - 5" pliers I've carried.  Not shown in the photo are a few types of small Vise-Grips clamping pliers.

Hi, I would be interested in how the small Channellock and the small Crescent water pump pliers compare to each other and to the Knipex Cobra .

Thanks.

The Crescent RT24 and Channellock 424 water pump pliers are limited in capability compared with the Knipex Cobra pliers.  This is due to the size and geometry of their open jaws, and the Cobra construction appears stronger.  The Cobra pliers can grep hex and irregularly shaped objects, rods, and pipes better.  The water pump pliers have straight jaws.  The Crescent jaws are larger than the Channellock jaws and can open wider.

Current price of the Crescent RT24 pliers is about $8 (US) -- much less expensive than the Cobra.  At that low price, it is worth trying the Cresent pliers to see if they meet your needs.  Then, give them away and buy a Knipex Cobra.   :D

That's what I did actually:)  thank you so much!  The Free T4 and the Knipex 125 would be better than any plier-based multitool i would think.  Am I correct?

That depends on your needs.  For doing electronics and electrical work, I would need a long nose pliers and wire cutting capability.

I had an epiphany:  I don't carry my Leatherman PST often  because I prefer to carry and use my Knipex Cobra pliers.  It's kind of a shelf queen because I have the leather sheath in mint condition with the original box and papers.

If you were to pair the PST with a SAK Classic SD you would have 19 different tools with zero redundancy.

Needlenose pliers
Standard pliers
Wire cutters
2.5 inch blade
Awl
Flat bit #1
Flat bit #2
Wood/ metal file
Phillips driver
Micro flat bit#3
Can opener
Cap lifter
Ruler
Pen blade
Nail file
Flat bit #4
Scissors
Tweezers
Toothpick

Those are always great as a combo  :like: both are very compact and tool dense

I had a similar thought, but the other way around...

The Pioneer with the Micra.

Large blade
Small blade
Scissors
Awl
large SD
mid-sized SD
3mm SD
2D Phillips SD
Eyeglass SD
Ruler
File
Tweezer
Can Opener
Bottle Opener

Of course, the Pioneer is on the slimmer side, but you can trade up to a Farmer and add a saw to the toolset if you want.  Anything without scale tools will not have the redundancy of the tweezers.  The bottle opener is duplicated... but really, not really.

The Pioneer/Soldier 1961 + Micra is my favorite SAK/MT combo, if I had to choose one.

Also worth noting - the Micra and PST have somewhat similar toolsets.

I forgot about those Crescent RT24 pliers. I've seen those in person at Home Depot and they are small little buggers!
I knew my wife was a keeper when she transitioned from calling it a knife thingy to a multi-tool.

This is a recycled photo from 2 years ago.  I'll bet I've had the same combo in my pocket the vast majority of the time since it was taken.  Today is no exception.

I've carried a Skeletool KBX (knife) along with a Pioneer X once in a while (usually on outdoor recreation days). I like that combo. The Skeletool makes quick work of opening bottles, and quick cuts on things that I can completely open with my hands.  The Pioneer X does the harder work, and on those days there often isn't any.

Somedays I carry a Pioneer or Farmer with my Skele instead of the Compact as well, depending on outdoor or indoor activity, for the same reason.  The Compact is great for office carry.
