I have them on my BK7 and like them a lot. Not only for the better grippiness, but because they add just a touch of thickness to the grip.

Here are a couple of mine. Smaller one arrived today. Grohmann #4 and #3 with Water Buffalo Horn handles. The #3 was the version with the piggyback sheath with marlin spike.

Lasher Tools here in South Africa produce Cold Steel machetes (well not sure if they still do but they did at one point).

I bought this Lasher cane knife.

Sugar cane is a huge industry in Kwa Zulu Natal where I live. A cane knife runs at about R60 or USD 5 or 3 pounds something in English money. A cold steel machete is way above that at least 4x more.

Anyway I savaged it with an angle grinder to make a Bowie machete - see below, put a razor sharp edge on the front half of the blade and left a nice durable hacking edge on the back half. Rough knife for outdoor work. And the only fixed blade I own outside of my kitchen.

The Bantam in the pic is for scale.

Looks good!   :tu:

I recently bought a Lasher Kukri machete for R82, and a CS Kukri machete a few months ago for R490  :twak:
Identical except for:
-Edge on the Lasher runs all the way to the handle while the CS has about 2cm unsharpened
-The lasher's handle is pure plastic, the CD identical in every way except the material is a bit more rubbery.
-The Lasher has no sheath....
- The CS blade has a dead spot on the belly, and in general the Lasher (blade) seems better & tougher.

Those look great, really a pity I can't get them for my BK2 and the BK9 that will be mine some time this year....
Local supplier doesn't carry them, and the price is a bit rough......

Check your country's Amazon website.

That's a lot of bread to chuck in the water and hope, different story if I lived in SA (which I thankfully don't), but we're a very small market and delivery, courier costs and import duties could easily turns this into a nightmare...

G I hope you can find a suitable deal when the time comes. Sounds like your leaning towards the BK9?

Same with the minimalist, I almost bought the same one, but questioned what I'd use it for-"like that's enough of a reason not to get one

Sadly no, just a quick visit to clear the head before a meeting.

Hopefully early next week I'll get a few hours throwing flies in a lake.

Swapped out sheaths on the BK-5. Had an old Spec Ops Combat Master on an Ontario Marine knife. The sheath is sized to 8.5 inch blades so it's a better fit on the BK-5. The idea was suggested by a guy in a Becker forum that was upgrading his BK-5 to one of the Spec Ops sheaths. I checked the fit for him and liked it so well that it's staying on the Camp.

Nice! I've always wanted to try one of those Spec Ops sheaths. I've heard great things about them. And I've had good luck with Spec Ops products. Got my teenage son a Spec Ops THE PACK last year, and now finally it looks like he has a backpack that will last him more than a year before he can tear it up.

Thanks bud!!!!  I ordered several more this morning to upgrade some fixed blades that are in my "go" bags so each can be in a proper sheath with an accessory pouch. The old one I have is OD but sadly, they don't offer that color now so had to go with coyote and black.

The Spec Ops stuff is way overbuilt for rough use and the sheaths reflect that philosophy.

 :tu:

No doubt. The Spec Ops THE PACK is as easily just as tough as my Maxpedition and 5.11 Tactical gear, and I prefer some of the design decisions over the 5.11 Rush series of packs. If Spec Ops did the marketing that Maxpedition and 5.11 do, I'm sure they'd be just as popular for well made gear in that price range.

And if you keep posting pictures of these sheaths to tempt me, I might have to get me one. I'd like to have one I can use with my BK7 and SOG Tech Bowie, but have been holding back. It's a matter of "want" more than "need"   :)
