Re-shot the Kephart.....still not entirely happy with the pic.

(Image removed from quote.)

That dried pecan limb was hard as hell to cut chips on! If I remember correctly, Pecan is only slightly less tough than Hickory.   :ahhh

That is an awesome shot SG

Thanks buddy!  :salute:   I still can't get the green linen micarta handle to render properly...it's a kind of dreamy olive green.  :D

Whatever the color of the handle is the blade is still very nice :dd:

:salute:   :D  It's my "Goldilocks knife"....everything about it is just right!

Love the looks of old, worn military blades. So classy  :tu:
Here are two of mine I like to carry at the same time, since they are complete opposites:

Curved trailing point vs. Straight falling point
Slim, thin gind vs. Beefy, thick grind
Delicate plain edge vs. Agressive serrated blade
Ultra light partial tang vs. Heavy stout full tang
Humble budget steel vs. High tech modern steel
Classy textile with belt loop vs. Modern plastic with multi angle tek-lock

A lovely matching pair!

Thanks for all the kind words. I thought I would post up some hand-made or so-called,"theatre" knives that I have acquired over the years. Supposedly the term originated during WWII when soldiers weren't fighting they would make knives to use. Blades were usually made from old truck springs and the handles from pieces of plexiglass from broken aircraft canopies. Not sure where they got the aluminum to cast guards and pommels. Some of these knives were really crude and others works of art.
A couple of the knives shown here pre-date WWII while most of them are of fairly recent(the last 50 years)manufacture. One knife is very special to me even though it is quite crude looking. It was made by my dad when he was about 21 years old in the Navy stationed in San Diego on a submarine about 1925.The handle and guard are pieces of copper hammered flat.A long story about how it came into my possession that I will save for another time.
The first pic shows 4 handmade knives and one unknown.
Second pic is a Frost Mini-Boot;a hand made ;a Westphal;an M&M throwing knife and a Western boot knife.
Third pic is another hand made.
Fourth anf fifth pics are hand made knives by someone named Ken Parkins and they are dated.
Sixth is a large hand made double edged dagger stamped LJM. No clue as to who that is.That and the next knife came out of a huge collection of military knives a friend of mine bought and then sold me the ones he didn't want.
Seventh is a PAL RH36 (WWII era)with a custom stag handle.
Eighth is a custom(?) by someone named Ruth dated 1990.The blade is 5/16ths of an inch thick.
The next 9 pictures are all hand made knives by unknown makers. The only one I know about is the aluminum handled one.It was made in Poland around 1956 just before the Russians overran the country.
The swaybacked one is actually quite comfortable to hold. The one with the white handles and the double fullers has a bottle opener and screwdriver on the tip! The one with the stag handle has a very interesting blade grind and the guard is actually part of the blade. The last one with the brass, copper, and aluminum handle is quite heavy but actually feels comfortable to use.

Hi Ray

I have to say, you have a fascinating collection!  :salute:

Many of them are not my taste but all of them are extremely interesting.  8)

One of your knives reminded me of a folder from my stolen childhood collection that I completely forgot I'd ever owned........unexpected trip down memory lane. :salute:

I had to question why I found your knives so fascinating, and the only answer I have is in a world of CS, Tops, Esee and Kabar knifeporn, your knives are like dad's girly mags that had stars in strategic locations

Thank you for the kind words and the most unusual analogy;I rather enjoyed it. Knives have been a part of my life since the age of eight when I nearly amputated a finger trying to open my grandfather's pocket knife that was verboten to me.I still have that knife(as well as the first knife I was allowed to purchase a couple year's later)and I am still wary when attempting to open it. Some 60 plus years later and knives continue to fascinate me.
Over the years my tastes in knives have changed;sometimes dramatically. Switchblades were my first love and I have amassed about a hundred of them over the years.Everything from a tiny 2 inch(50mm)long stag handled one to a monster 15 in(380 mm)one and a couple going back to the early 1900's.
Then I started collecting older knives that sported stag scales and progressed to ivory;pearl;ebony;silver and even a couple of gold handles.Modern style lock backs and unusual customs and then to straight razors when the supplies of good knives started drying up. I never really got heavily into military knives as there were too many counterfeits around then. I had a friend who did and would buy large collections of knives;keep the military items and then sell of the remaining ones.I was his best customer. We would often trade items if I happened on military pieces.
Another of my sources were several friends in the law enforcement community who would gift me many confiscated knives(ones that weren't involved in crimes that is).A lot of knives came from customers of mine who;when they found out I collected knives would always seem to have one or two they had around.Recently I had several very valuable knives gifted to me by an acquaintance whom I had spent some time evaluating a couple of large boxes full of knives for him to sell. I picked out several that I wanted to buy and gave him a fair estimate of their worth. He gifted them to me for helping him out.
Even though I have a number of very valuable knives I enjoy more finding them than what their actual worth is.That is what makes it all worthwhile. There is nothing like finding a knife that is more than a hundred years old and pondering on what stories it might tell if it had the capability of speech. One in particular in my collection is a 17th century jambiya with a carved ivory handle;original sheath and a small companion dagger in the sheath. The Damascus double edged blade is covered with inlayed gold cyphers of the beginning verses of the Koran. The figures on the handle are worn smooth from years of handling and there are myriad cracks through the ivory. The wooden sheath is covered with some type of animal skin(lizard maybe(worked with designs and has a silver plated copper tip.I thought it might be newer due to the plating but found out that silver plating copper dates back more than a thousand years.Done with heat rather than electricity.
As an aside;I have been working for several years on a book about some of the knives in my collection;how they were acquired;and what and where they may have been and seen.Hopefully it will be finished before I pass on.
Here is a pic of one of my knife storage units and a drawer of autos.

I can post some pictures if you like but it will take up several posts as I see you can only post 4 pictures per reply. The pictures were taken about 5 years ago and there is some empty areas that have since been filled. I haven't had the time to re-take the pictures. If you like I will include some other cabinets I have as well.
