Trying my hand at making a smoking pipe out of a block of Walnut. I used the saw to cut the rough shape, and the awl and the blade to start the bowl. To be continued....

I know it's a hardwood, but I wonder how resistant to the heat it will be? I suppose a good layer of pre carbonizing could help protect it.

I'm wondering the same thing. I think this is the hardest walnut I've ever put a saw to!
