21/30

Nothing out of ordinary today. Looking nice everyone. I think I'll switch yet for a few days to a Nomad, as reviewing the regulations 111mm may not be on the safe side in public so I was thinking just Champ in public and Nomad for stuff in car, hotel rooms, and so on.

Day 7:

Following along with the pipe theme, I was able to smoke a bowl last night. It was 80 deg F yesterday. In Ohio. In February

Trying my hand at making a smoking pipe out of a block of Walnut.  I used the saw to cut the rough shape, and the awl and the blade to start the bowl.  To be continued....

Outrider Day 16 (continued):

Working on patching my jeans some more this afternoon. I made a mistake and caught the back of the jeans leg with a small stitch, effectively sewing the leg shut.

I couldn't pick up the stitch to back it out and correct my error using just my finger nails. So I pulled out the mighty toothpick which ended up saving the day.

Scissors also came in handy. Short while later my jeans were patched:

Used the cap lifter to open a Guiness and celebrate the completed job.

I'm wondering the same thing.  I think this is the hardest walnut I've ever put a saw to!
Trying my hand at making a smoking pipe out of a block of Walnut.  I used the saw to cut the rough shape, and the awl and the blade to start the bowl.  To be continued....

That's cool! I'm interested to see how it turns out.

Will walnut work as a pipe wood? I know it's a hardwood, but I wonder how resistant to the heat it will be?  I suppose a good layer of pre carbonizing could help protect it.

Day 22: zooming in on the caplifter. In these days of the mini prybar being so popular, the caplifter on the 111mm is a beast. The 91mm version been tested rigorously in challenges in the past, even with the "weak side" (straining on the peening) it holding out against the force that can be applied, the 111mm promises greatly and had so far not let me down!

It would be interesting to hear from SAK, GAK, DAK soldiers and if they have any instances were they managed to break their tool.

The 111mm caplifter locks by liner lock and keeps you from having it close on your hands so I feel safe to (miss)use it freely . And should it break down so did it do so serving as a tool, the highest cause, and is economically easily replaced.

Powernoodle Day 22

I poured too much Oxy Clean down the sink and it turned into a rock hard brick that I had dig through with the Outrider's blade.

Day 18

Risotto for dinner and some Tokaji wine to go with it - the Herc's corkscrew dealt with it in a second.
