the tempering and resulting hardness is different between the blade and tools.The blade steel for regular models is the same grade. Some of the bigger blades that are build for victorinox may have different steel, I think - Victorinox builds apart from the regular lines the hunter pro series and also kitchen knives etc.
Oh that also makes me remind another question, is the kitchen knives the same steel as the SAK?
Does the regular blade and pen blade have the same steel? And do the blade steel on the smaller vics also share the same bladesteel?
That's interesting Reinier, have any information on why?

In accordance with Victorinox 2017 catalogue, all steel blades are made of martensitic stainless steel.

In accordance with Victorinox 2017 catalogue, all steel blades are made of martensitic stainless steel.For pocket knives (SAKs) the following steel alloys are used: ||_MATERIAL NO._ | |__FOR__| |_ABBREVIATION DIN_| |____C (%)____| |____CR (%)____| |___MO (%)___| |_V (%)_|| 1.4110 blade X55CrMo14 0.48 - 0.60 13.0 - 15.0 0.50 - 0.80 ≤ 0 .15 1.4021springX20Cr130.16 - 0.2512.0 - 14.0 1.4031toolsX39Cr130.36 - 0.4212.5 - 14.5 0.1 - 0.2The following steel alloys are used for household and professional knives: ||_MATERIAL NO._ | |__ABBREVIATION DIN__| |_ABBREVIATION AISI_| |____C (%)____| |____CR (%)____| |___MO (%)___| |_V (%)_|| 1.4419 X38CrMo14 420 0.38 14 0.80 1.4034 X46Cr13 420 0.43 - 0.50 12.5 - 14.5 1.4116 X50CrMoV15 440A 0.45 - 0.55 14.0 - 15.0 0.50 - 0.80 0.1 - 0.2 1.4110 X55CrMo14 440 A 0.48 - 0.60 13.0 - 15.0 0.50 - 0.80 ≤ 0 .15 But the final hardness depends not only on the alloy used but the heat treatment too.
2. Do they use the same steel as the knives for all the tools in all models?
