Alternate use of Sak tools
on: February 06, 2018, 03:23:14 PM
I, VIXADDICT, recently recruited member of the secret order of the swiss army knights open this temple of knowledge dedicated to the optimisation of your knife companion.

I found few topics about how to alternatively use one tool, but I just thought a place to gather the entire community knowledge could be useful  :D (if ever a similar topic has already been created, please accept my humble apologies)

Here I start !!!

1- The sharp reamer on alox model is an excellent tool to remove the eyes on a pineapple without loosing too much of the fruit flesh.  :D

2- Can opener is also the perfect tool to open barely opened pistachios.  :D

3- Flat screwdriver is actually a better scratch card cleaner than a penny.   :D

4- Corkscrew can be drilled into a three while camping to hang out your wet clothes to let it dry.  :D

5- Alox models don't have the mighty hook, but open the can opener and the flat screwdriver and hang the 2 handles of your hand cutting heavy plastic bag on these tools and you'll had a very confortable handle!  :D

6- The mighty hook can be used to lock the pen. Using the whole knife as a pen and not only the pen itself is much more comfortable for bigger hands.  :D

7- The mighty hook can be used to remove a roast from it's dish (hang it by its strings) and transfer it to a plate or a cutting board to cut it.  :D

Your turn swiss army knights fellows !!!  :gimme:

Speaking of the wood saw, the back spine of one is one of the best ferro rod strikers I've found.

One that I forgot to post for a long time, quite a specific use for the Fish Scaler, but could still be handy. Anyway, the Scaler perfectly fits these simple locks mostly used on briefcases or bags.

The can opener, also works nicely for lifting a hot kettle of the fire/burner.

So that's where the lock type is from, guess they're rarish nowadays, as are traditional briefcases and bags to a lesser degree if Im going to be honest.

Tweezers can be used as an eyeglass screwdriver.

Awesome tip, especially for the tinker models who can't have the mini eyeglass screwdriver!

I eat so many olives, I have a dedicated spike for getting those out, especially of the big jars

The sharp edge of the can opener makes for a workable scraper.  It's taken care of hang nails for me when my 58mm knives aren't nearby.

It also works well to pry open the slot in lead fishing sinkers. The orange peeler on the Executive dies this too.

The bottle opener is just the right size to tighten the nuts on guitar strap locks and potentially the nuts on plugs.

The screw driver on the 58mm file is just right for the screw on guitar strap buttons.  This is the intended use,  but is good to point out anyway.

I used the bottle opener on my alox SAK to chip away at hard packed snow for foot holds. So I used it as an impromptu mini snow pick I guess?
Warning: wear heavy gloves in case it folds up. But if it’s -5 Celsius outside and you’re messing around with snow, it’s a good idea to wear gloves anyway.  :pok: :D

I usually grind of the sharp part in the can opener but on those that I keep, they are mostly used to clean under my nails and to pry apart the kids lego

The small SD tip on the can opener is great for those pistachio nuts that have only the tiny little slit. The Vic can opener pops them right open.

The tweezers make a god roach clip.

The tweezers can also open handcuffs in a pinch.
Don't get too serious, just enough will do.
