Trying to catch up and include new arrivals,

This 2007 arrived this week, and it is missing the Hammer/Knife/Nail shield.  But the Red jigged bone is stunning to these old eyes.

Hopefully BUCK will the Hammer shield available to make the scale whole!

I have to admit to being derelict in my duty to inform you that SMKW put a Queen Canoe in their flash sale on Thursday. I passed, but they got me on another flash sale item...

I remember that it was red, and would therefore have to have been the red composition. That was three days ago, though. Maybe I deserve a :twak: for that one! Should I notice a Canoe in the flash sale again, I'll do a much better job of informing you.

:like:  That looks like a fun one.  Does is glow in the dark? Looking at the older ones without the bolster R, I'm wondering why they decided to add it?

No, I just checked, no glow!

This has to be New Old Stock, as the brass liners on back side are tarnished.

From research, I suspect that when SMKW acquired the Rough Rider brand, they changed the name spelling to R Y D E R. And designed the fancy bolsters.

Reviewing some You Tube videos from SMKW they also discussed having searched for a particular factory in China that was putting out the best quality consistently.  So I think this was all tied together by SMKW and brands they purchased, to create old style knives with a modern appeal at affordable pricing.

This likely includes the Queen brand and using 440C steel on several pocket knives. They are consistently adding this steel with a high luster finish. Two knife makers I know indicate 440C is a difficult steel that requires skill to obtain the same results as can be done easier with lesser steels.

Yes. It was designed for fun.  Even the pen blade is scripted -

AWL 4 are nice looking examples of the pattern.
I believe CASE yet makes that pattern, or similar with the blade etch.

The bottom Stag model is impressive, you indicated made by Queen?  Queen wether the original or todays brand mfg do turn out quality specimens.

Thanks.  Canoes have been a long time favorite of mine and I really like the Queens.

Case still makes the canoe with that etch and pattern number, but they are not the same as the older ones.  The blades on this '76 ride on a single backspring as the Queens do, but the new Case canoes have two, one spring per blade, with much thinner blade stock.

Yes, the Canal Street cannitler was contracted to Queen by Canal Street just a few years before Canal Street cutlery closed.   It is stag bone, which just means that it's regular cow shin bone died and jigged in a way that is supposed to resemble stag.  It has two backsprings, but the main drop point blade is thick and rides on both of them.

All of the Queens I own were produced in Titusville so I can't speak to the current quality, but it is good to hear that it hasn't faltered as it easily could have.
