I like Canoe frames, though they're not my favorite.  This is the last Canoe that I bought right before I got the covid last year.

The artisan wood scales matched well with the petrified wood worry stone.

This Stag model is one I found this summer and it include the box.

And I am free the scales on it are very stunning.

Thank you

:like: That is a awesome Buck.  They did a great job on that stag.  The RR is good looking as well.  You are killing with your Canoes.  Its not a pattern I "hear" a lot of fuss about.  Trappers, Stockmans, Barlow, but Canoes not so much.  There is so much to this Trad hobby that makes it super fun even on the sidelines.

Thank you for the pictures and the enthusiasm over this wonderful pattern.

Thank you Aloha,  :tu:

The sad part, is I have some more to share, and will feature one ore two at a time.

Your comment surprises me, as a few You Tube, slip joint contributors have indicated that Canoe, an American Pattern is one of the more popular styles.   :dunno:

It must be that most are closet collectors

I’m not to big on the design but the more I keep looking at some of these it’s making me more interested, is there any good page on the history on the where the design came from?

JR - I can not pin point exactly any details, but recall reading it is an American adaptation of the EQUAL ENDED knife made in England, sometimes referred to as a Cigar Knife.

My personal twist is that a young married apprentice to a season English knife smith who immigrated to the Americas from Sheffield experienced a trouser pocket failure.

The young man likely with a newborn at home, was provided a grocery list and a couple of dimes to buy milk, bread, some oats and eggs!  Total cost about 18 cents, that is why the two dimes.

But, when he got to the store to pay his tab, the dimes were missing, and he found a hole in his trousers’ pocket.  The hole caused by the exposed blade of either end of the knife above the handle.

Being an up and coming apprentice he redesigned the bolster to cover the blade pivot issue on each end, resulting in the birth of the Canoe pattern, to solve a problem many man experienced.

****This account is totally a interpretation of LoopCutter to satisfy is active imagination why the Canoe pattern was adopted. Any resemblance to characters living or dead is totally accidental. 😜

My mail call  :mail:, yesterday provided a package containing a Buck Canoe, in red, my second.

It is marked as a 2016 model.  The same year some other off shore produce Bucks were made with Pakawood material in the red finish.
