This seems like a good intro to the game:

Creating characters (a bit boring)

The beginning of a game:

That's about it...

Solving problems you didn't know you had in the most obscure way possible

"And now, it's time to hand this over to our tame race axe driver. Some say, he can live in the forest for six months at a time without food, and he knows of a secret tribe of only women where he is their God. All we know is, he's call the Styx!" - TazzieRob

The TLDR:
The easiest way to start is the get the D&D Starter Set
The more complete way is to get a copy of the Player's Handbook, Dungeon Master's Guide, Monster Manual, a couple sets of dice, pencils, paper, and 2 to 5 people.

Not that I know anything about such nerdy pursuits but....there is also the free SRD (System Reference Document) available online which contains all of the rules for the game. If you are interested in an older version there are 'retroclones' which recreate the rules under the modern OGL (Open Gaming License).

Trying to adapt the D and D materials for Star Wars.  :)

This seems like a good brewed up Jedi class, pending tweaking?

And I think that a hand blaster is a slightly cheaper hand crossbow, with faster and less frequent reloading (power cells instead of arrows), and greater range and damage.

Same for heavy blasters, sorta equivalent to heavy crossbows.

Explosive weapons should be pretty straightforward.
Hooked, like everyone else. ;)

All hail the hook!

I was about to say that. Star Wars Saga Edition is Star Wars done in the D20 system. Very compatible with 3.x version of D&D.
