I added a cross-hatching pattern to the translucent red and blue (see below).  Yes, the grip is better. They were so scratched up that I was considering new scales. I prefer the nylon on the bigger knives, and even the old Econoline nylon. I even bought several SAKs in bubble packaging which already had scratches. 20-30 years ago Victorinox shipped pristine cellidor scales. Not always anymore. I cross-hatch with non-loading wet-dry sandpaper, at an angle first on one direction, and then the other. With a light but no delicate touch. Now my grip is improved, especially when my hands are wet or perspiry.
