ALL - I'd been looking for brass rod for modding SAKs and found the 2.5mm material easy enough. Also found 2.5 in nickel silver but NEVER 2.2mm So, hallelujah, here's contact info on a guy in England who has what we're all losing sleep over! And he also has 2.5mm stock. Prices are very reasonable.  I just ordered 10 pieces, each 12" long and the whole thing with shipping was $22 US. A full third of that is shipping so you'll get a better price per unit by ordering more. He takes PayPal, and they magically take care of the exchange of dollars to pounds.  This is the second order I've done with the guy and he's prompt and a straight shooter. He told me his supplier told him that the only other people who ever order 2.2mm brass rod is Victorinox.

I think it's threaded ones we long the most for, would be nice to not have to peen. But nice find, 2.2mm id's annoying to make for me out of 2.5

Conrad sells this too. Any member from Europe is able to get those and forward them stateside (I did a couple of times).

If there's enough interest I will put together kits of brass rod and sell them through the forum.

I'm thinking three options: 84mm, 91mm and 93mm, each with enough brass rod to build 2 or 3 knives.  I'll have to confirm prices, but for a 91mm set (2x 2.2mmm x 100mm and 2 x2.5mm x 100mm) it'll be about £3 in the UK, £4 shipped to Europe or £6 to the rest of the world.

So after I smurfed up and ordered 2mm rod, received it, realised my mistake and finally ordered the 3/32 inch one you tell me there is actually a source of 2.2mm?  :ahhh

Using a 2.2mm metric fine thread die would be easy enough, so I assume you want internal threads? It would have to be a quite tiny screw to leave some material left of the side to still keep it together.

Anyway a perfect little center hole would help guide and drill whatever size you need. So for rods with truly tiny center holes, and diameters available in tiny metric steps (1.5, 1.6, 2.0, 2.2, 2.25, 2.3, 2.5, 3.0 etc) in brass, copper, tungsten or tungsten copper, try searching for terms like "single hole EDM drill electrode". Usually sold as packages with a few meters, but not too crazy priced if you plan a few mods.

(Make sure you don't order multi-hole electrodes - and come to think of it I wouldn't try threading the tungsten ones).

Is hiraethus still offering these? I found another thread on here that appeared to be the place to pick up hiraethus' kits, but the thread closed ages ago.  ???

Noobie here, but it already seems like 2.2mm/2.25mm brass rods are as easy to find as unicorn eggs!  :-\

Just a length of 2.2mm or 2.25mm would be plenty for now. I'm just swapping out a corkscrew for a phillips head screwdriver - starting off small for my 1st mod  :tu:

Nar I am down canterbury.

Post offices are closed but I think they are still clearing post boxes so I'll look for some stamps when I look for the pins.
