Well... me and my mam's just had it and it was bloody marvelous - probably the best and maybe the hottest I've had yet.  :2tu: I put plenty of chilli in it Nix, both our own Apache chillies and chilli powder, and a lot of black pepper too. My mam might not make it 'til morning, but it was worth it.

Oh... and we just had it with American rice.  :tu:

Here, it's frozen outside, chili inside.....

Today's holiday treat: a new batch of Black bean and Turkey chili. Sour cream awaits.....

Ingredients, in order of introduction to the pot:

•  5 strips of bacon, diced
•  6 cloves of garlic, smashed and chopped
•  2 medium onions, diced
•  2 orange Bell peppers, diced
•  4 celery ribs, diced
•  1/4 (maybe more like 1/3 cup) chili powderª
•  2 pounds ground (minced) turkey
•  1 large can (tin) chopped, fire-roasted tomatoes
•  splash water
•  2 15oz cans black beans
•  1 15oz can sweet corn
•  extra splash of water
•  one small pinch each: ground cinnamon, clove, and allspice
•  one big pinch of salt
•  another big pinch of salt

Still simmering away, but at the moment it smells like dinner will be fabulous.....  :D

a: house-made chili powder concocted from loads of New Mexico chiles, Pasilla chiles, Pequin chiles, cumin, and garlic powder.

Here's Mrs Rowland's White Bean Chicken Chili recipe:
1 Crockpot, set on low (it cooks all day)
4 boneless, skinless chicken breasts precooked
3 cans white beans
1 16oz jar med or hot salsa
Chili powder and pepper to taste preference
8 oz shredded Monterey Jack cheese
8 oz shredded sharp cheese
Tabasco sauce to taste
Add all to the crockpot and cook on low 6 plus hours

Pumpkin Chili
1 Crockpot on high setting
1 lb ground turkey cooked
1 med onion chopped and sauteed
2 tsp Minced garlic
1 15 oz can of pumpkin
1 can diced tomatoes
2 cans light kidney beans
4 med potatoes cut into chunks
4.5 tap chili powder
1/4 salt and pepper
1 small yellow and 1 small green peppers chopped
1 Tbs brown sugar
Cook on high for approx. 6 hrs or until the spuds are tender, and serve with cornbread.

Barry, with the cornbread recipe above, do you preheat the cast iron skillet?

(With my cornbread, I usually always pre-heat and pre-grease the skillet. I think it helps to prevent sticking.)

Nobody wants to leave any good cornbread in the skillet.....

Yes, it goes in the oven while we're mixing up the recipe.  By the time it's done, the cast iron is ready to go.

I've never had moose chili either. Reckon we better hunt up a moose and bag him. Drag it over to the chuck wagon and tell cookie to get busy we worked up a powerful hunger for chili.   :D     I'm thinking moose chili would be right tasty.    :tu:
