I have two cousins in the USA, sons of my father´s sister, who died last year. They´re in South Carolina. near Charleston, and I would love to go visit them one day.

I could drive a car from there to Montana the long way around and make pictures of some of the famous landscapes. I´d be mighty hungry by the time I arrive.

peanut butter and ham??  :ahhh  That's just ludicrous... but I recommend pumpernickel.

Had a peanut butter and cucumber sandwich yesterday on sourdough yesterday... with extra extra course salt.  'twas delicious

I just go straight ham and peanut butter. If you are using a natural unsweetened peanut butter, a little honey works wonders. Perhaps a little extra salt. I used to butter the one side of the bread the ham went against, but somehow stopped that practice.

I suppose you could throw a leaf or two of lettuce into the mix, but I don't think that's required. Purists just go with ham and peanut butter.  :gimme:

Lettuce? Really? I struggle to find it a meaningful ingredient for anything except, say, rabbits

Well, FB, El C was asking, and I tried to be creative. But, me, my peanut butter and ham sammies? No.

Now, who else is eating/trying/ever tried Vegemite? (Or the lesser spread known as Marmite?)

I think Marmite is a bit of an acquired taste. The key here is to start by using a very small amount on toast or something. After you've been eating it a while (a week or two), you'll start craving it and using more. It's chock full of vitamins, and I suspect that your brain 'learns' to value it.

I'm going to make some beans later on today. I'll add a spoon of Vegemite to the cooking liquid for extra richness and depth of flavor. Yum.

I was brought up on Vegemite but most people here probably prefer Marmite.
It's nice with cheese on crackers.

Yes, although I tend to have egg, mushroom or relish with the cheese.

Just the one ? You need a back up jar Mags just in case.

I do favour Marmite over Vegemite but they both deserve an honourable mention. I've not tried it on a toasted cheese sandwich cos that's what Lea & Perrins is for (another high octane, no naked lights, culinary companion).

Which reminds me of a joke involving two rabbits with the punchline "No, it's mixingmytoasties* ..." but I have forgotten the rest of the joke so it can't have been that memorable....
