another handyman question
on: March 28, 2018, 05:37:35 PM
To those of you who own (and use) a Handyman, is it practical to use?  I have a four-layer SAK that's fine, but this is a couple layers thicker, and I've zero experience with anything this thick.  I'd really like the pliers-scissors-saw feature, but before I buy one, I'd appreciate any feedback on its real-life useability.  Carrying isn't a concern........mostly just wondering if something this big is really all that "handy" to use.  My alternative choice would be a Deluxe Tinker, and give up the saw, but I really want it all.  thanks.

Many people carry a Swisschamp and use it without problems which is 8 layers thick.
So in all you shouldn't experience any problems.
Unless you've got very small hands

You're welcome.  Here's another shot I took.  I placed the Deluxe Tinker on top and it pretty much fits in the middle section of the Handyman.
If you take a Deluxe Tinker and add a second set of scales on it, that's pretty much the width of the Handyman...the other photos kind of make the Handyman look very big.

According to SAKwiki, the Handyman is 1.3mm thinner than the Champion Plus and Cybertool 34, both of which I find quite comfortable to use.

6 layers is not so wide.

The swisschamp XLT (my edc) has 11 layers... And even that is no problem.

Have fun with your handyman!

I Carried a Craftsman until I got my SwissChamp and it is a very manageable and capable tool. Now I'd probably pocket carry Soldier or RescueTool as well if the law wasn't so iffy with those, so maybe I'm not the best guy to ask. But it'll ride nicely in the watch pocket, so really shouldn't be unmanageable. So I'd say the only risk is that eventually you'll want to go Champ.
