Friend sent me this. Thought would share it.
I never heard of the term/phrase before.

My Missus used to work with a woman who would invariably go into excruciatingly detailed (& very depressing) descriptions of just how badly she was doing when people said "How are you ?".
It was explained to her many times that people REALLY did not want to know how she was, but she just couldn't help herself - maybe it was a form of venting about how she felt life was so unfair for her.

I often respond with something like "nothing a cold beer wouldn't fix."
It takes people off guard, but in a positive way and makes them smile more often than not.

I remember asking some distant acquaintance that I met at a supermarket some years ago. Instead of a flat answer got a full unwanted reply: "Well, my girlfriend left me, and I tried to take a bath with the bread toaster. The fuse broke, and I stayed there in total darkness until the water got too cold. So now I'm here shopping as I don't have a bread toaster or spare fuses". I guess that might be a good reason for something else than the flat reply, but it certainly caught me by surprise.
