it might be to physically limit the angle you can put the phillips head at, since greater than a specific angle and you wouldnt be able to turn the handle and turn the phillips head. So instead of leaving it up to users not to tilt the screwdriver past that threeshold, they have made it a feature of the tool, so you can tilt away with reckless abandon.

Just a thought of why it might be that way.

Edit: also, looking at the mechanism they show, it would probably damage the tool if you tilted the head to too much of an angle, and twisted. So best not let people be able to that.

I wonder if we can get a couple of these German companies like Wiha & Knipex together to make a multitool.  It could be the BMW or Porsche of multitools.

A German-made multitool would be cool!
In order to be certain of having the right tool for every job.........one must first acquire a lot of tools

One other problem that isn't so easily remedied is the looseness.  If this tool was second hand I could understand this, but when I flick it open, the blades and saws come out of the handle.  I dunno if this is typical of the Core, or if it's just mine, but I can honsetly say it is potentially quite dangerous since the blade on the handle you are holding when you flick it also comes out, something my old PST II didn't even do.  If one wasn't paying attention, one could possibly lop off the end of one's finger.

As you can see from the pics, when opened from one side, the serrated blade extended all the way out and locked open, while the plain edge opened enough to catch the end of a finger.  When opened from the other handle, the serrated blade came out enough to take the end off a finger.

Anyone else have this problem or is mine in need of an adjustment?

Def mine does this , I'm ok with it as the tension is just right and I dont tend to butterfly my tools . Unless this is of course the same tool as I got it from you  :D I'm sure Mickyd said his done it too .

It could be- I had two, and they were virtually identical.  I'm not certain which I sent you, or even if I've checked the other one.  I'm certain I have, but whether I was checking the new one or they got mixed up I don't recall.

This is core related, any more for some other tools (no means off topic) but ever notice how one side of a leatherman tools handle will break free when closing before the other one? Like one side is always under less tension than the other (same on my spirit now I think of it). The Leatherman designer who helped design the Skeletool among other things said that one side is ment to be under less tension, it allows for the tool to be closed with less effort. I never realized it was intentional till he mentioned it. Food for thought...

Certainly- there's an easy test.  Count your fingers, flick the Core open, then count your fingers again.  If you get the same number as the first time, then you don't have the one that pops open! :P
