Welcome to the MT forum ironhand

what I seen/read them use is the clips that many LMs have,
I've seen them use at least 2 different sizes.

I'm sure J-sews one of our many experts will give you better
details (don't ask him about one-hand-opening blades whatever you do!)

Ebay is a pretty good bet, i'm sure there was a seller selling screwdrivers purposely built for this. Some one will have a link somewhere :)

yes, the ones to take apart the leathermen.  mine totally sucks!  very sticky and hard to open.

After seeing your mods and the youtube vid, I though if I could get it apart I could polish it.

....of course all the mod ideas have really go me thinking too  >:D

thanks for the welcome

You should be able to get a kit like this from a big hardware store, the common kits fit the new LM's with the 6 point security torx bolts , the bits need to have the hollow center though.

If you have a early model Wave or a Sideclip you can get screw driver kits from this seller
http://cgi.ebay.com/5-point-torx-plus-star-screwdriver-leatherman-wave_W0QQitemZ360098226967QQcmdZViewItem?_trksid=p3286.m20.l1116
eLEATHERMAN.com a member here sells the 5 point bits too.
BTW you can probably disassemble your LM with one torx bit but to get it back together you will need a second bit/screwdriver of the same size to tighten the bolts properly (they tend to spin with 1 bit) I bought a second chepo torx bit set , ideally you would just get the one size you need. In the US you have a far greater product rang/availability so it should not be too hard for you  :D good luck mate.

Once I get this one straight, I'm soooooo gonna start looking at customizing!  :climber:

Yes we stock in-store both the T8 and T10 in both standard and security bits from Qualtool.  I'm at home right now but can get you a price tomorrow and can add them to the site as well.

I appreciate that, but I found some T10's locally, so I grabbed them.

Took everything apart last night!   >:D  I even took apart my old Gerber 600 tool - just for the helluva it!

Wife's not happy that I found another "new" hobby....LOL! :ahhh

But seriously, thanks to all of you for the help  :tu:

Now my next question is where can I find parts (other than salvaging from another tool) ?

Is there somewhere that sells aftermarket parts?

Only SOG (and Bear i think) sell new parts, the other brands you have to find a donor tool or ask on here as someone may have the bit you are looking for from a previous mod :)

WOW!

I was already looking at the SOG Powerlock S60 for my 11 yo son.  He had trouble with the Leatherman and the Gerber doesn't lock it's tools as well.

But with the parts availability (as with firearms) SOG may tip the scales just because I can get the parts I want to switch out.

Of course, that's not as much fun and making them, but sometimes it's like re-inventing the wheel and not worth the trouble.  I  think I'll email SOG for a parts list for the Powerlock and see what they're pricing looks like.

thanks,

ironhand

I actually got the email from SOG before I saw your post.

I've already order one!  LOL!

Really though, if it's easier to get parts from SOG - I'm hooked.

Makes the tool, as Magpul calls their AR15 grip - "mission adaptable".

Can't wait till it gets here  :climber:

yeah, I've got MAID grips on all the AR15's and a few of the 20 rd mags to use with my bipod equipped DR200.

I'm already thinking about a multitool specifically for working on the AR15 AND that will fit in the stock compartment for storage.  >:D

yes, most are big "wrenches", but you really don't need them for field repairs.  And really a regular multitool is good for alot of the work, but sometimes you need a special tool for the AR.

Here's a link to a pic of one that I've seen..  http://www.villagetactical.com/tools-d.html

there are several good pieces in this one, but you really don't need them all and others from a multitool wound be better.
