This weekend is the tenth Welsh Ride Thing: http://bearbonesbikepacking.co.uk/WelshRideThing/, an annual MTB bikepacking (fashionable off road touring) event that takes place in darkest mid-Wales. It's a bit like orienteering in that you get a list of grid references, except the organiser doesn't really mind if you to go to any, all or none of the points. You're free to plan the route as you see fit and there are no prizes* to be won. Some Hiraethus will just bimble about, stopping at pubs and cafes on the way round, others will be travelling as fast as they can in order to hit all the GRs in the weekend. The ride starts at lunchtime on Saturday and you're encouraged to find places to wild camp and generally get out and enjoy yourselves.I'll be riding this year on my gravel bike, carrying a lightweight-ish set of gear to allow me to stay out until Monday morning. In the process of sorting, weighing and packing it all yesterday I thought you might like to see what I'm taking:It's a bit of a jumble, but it is well organised, honestly! Dry weight for the weekend is 6 kg - food and water will be another 2.5 - 3 kg on top of that, and my bike weighs 10 kgMy packing list is here:I hope to get the bike packed up this afternoon, so I'll get a photo of that up if I can, and will be taking pics of the ride as well.*There is a raffle at the start, and a competition to see who has the lightest and heaviest bikes.
Sure thing m. But they're not as nice as my wife's home made ones.
That was Yorkshire.
Thanks Mark. Plan is to head off to Lake Vyrnwy and the Berwyns, then back via Bwlch y Groes. Forecast is looking pretty good for the weekend too.
