Thinking a bit more about this 'system'
People are thinking too much about angles,
knowing an angle and being able to find an angle can be usefull but to re-sharpen a knife we just need to follow the existing grind

All we need to do is line up the surface of the sand paper until its the same as the cutting bevel
I'm too steep here
(Image removed from quote.)

Better but a bit shallow
(Image removed from quote.)

Hitting the bevel now (sorry for the poor picture)
I would carry on and sharpen the whole edge at this angle
(Image removed from quote.)

We didn't need to know the angle to sharpen this chopper and we still don't but for curiosity's sake
(Image removed from quote.)

And just for JR
The prop/brick is 4" high
At 14% (I don't have a degrees sign  )
The prop is 15 1/2" back from the cutting edge

At 17%
The prop is 12 1/2" back from the cutting edge

At 20%
The prop is 10 1/2" back from the cutting edge

Hope this is useful to someone
Now you do.  :D

No one is using 'my  system'  so I guess I will have to do another knife

That one at the front
Nice old penknife with brass liners

Regrind the blade profiles
Looking better

Screw it to a bit of wood

That was no good as the sand paper was hitting the washer
Add some scraps of wood and a piece of leather to protect the knife  :tu:

The blades had almost a chisel grind originally so I went with that
Poor pictures but it has turned out razor sharp   :D

Nice little knife

It’s just nuts, with the warmer weather the Mrs has her mind set for things to be done, got the fire pit out but then dug a ditch to lower it down all just using a homemade camp shovel, broke the pressure washer out to clean up, besides that had the new roof put on, oh and the older kid got a girlfriend so the Mrs is going crazy, she’s vegan so she’s trying to make things to her level to make her feel comfortable while having a fire or playing games inside, all while putting up with all our other problems :poh: but in the end so worth it..

Great idea.  Got me thinking it might be cool to drill a hole through your sharpening stick and attach a small drawer knob to the top of the stick to hold.   Or even just a screw or small dowel.   Might help keep your fingers from accidentally catching your blade edge.
