Ron, i'm interested in your thoughts on the Opinel secateurs as i'm thinking of replacing my Bahcos that have served me well over the years but are getting rather worn now, i'm really liking the look of the Opy's  but there are a lot of niggling annoyances with some other secateurs, accidental locking or locks breaking etc that i would like to avoid, do they compare well with the Bahco ergo line?

I´ve used the Opinel shears for over a year now, and I like them a lot. I have no experience with Bahco as I´m used to Felco #2 shears which are issued by my employer. As I said elsewhere, the Felco, for me, is the standard by which all others are measured. I think the Opinel does just fine. It´s in the same price range as the Felco and of comparable quality.

Thanks  :tu:  I have never used Felco although i am aware they have a great reputation, i got Bahco as that's what my supplier had, cant fault them though to be honest but fancied a change, will check both Felco and Opinel when the time comes

I forgot to mention a maintenance issue. All parts of the Felco are available separately, which is useful if you´re a heavy user.

I'm not a heavy user but that is good to know and certainly something to consider, thanks  :salute:

A timely and useful thread for me as I consider another purchase.

Ron, we have Felco secateurs at work and I agree with your assessment of them. We also have ARS 300L spring-loaded shears for small branch tidying and root trimming. Carbon steel blades that keep an edge for a very long time. Inexpensive and highly recommended! Also a pair of very expensive and utterly fantastic Tobishi topiary and box shears that I'm terrified of getting lost. We're very well looked after. :hatsoff:

I imagine the Rangergrip shears are of the same inox steel as the blade? How long do they hold their edge? To me, the 71 appeals much as any multi does - as a "carry everywhere, just in case" tool.

I´m sorry I can´t answer your questions. I have no idea what the blade steel is, and I use the scissors for cutting flowers, no serious pruning.
