Completely understand Poncho!

I actualy got mine cheaper then what they retailed for back in the days.

On top of that I got a bunch of freebies with it, like 2 display stands, a wooden wall sign, a Victorinox toy truck, a Wenger Bayonet and a Classic SD with inlayed diamond.

From what I can find online:

By hand, in the original workshop from Carl Elsener...

Don't know if it's true, but I hope it is! :D
No way José. I would say they rigged up a special run with new tooling for the 7500 knives,
with final assembly and inspection by hand by the remaining cutlers they had in the house.

Got it relatively cheap because the case went bad over the years due IMHO to poor design, materials, and fabrication (probably a sub-contractor)
Filed a complaint with Vic Ibach, waiting for the outcome.

Meanwhile, the knife itself is brilliant and makes a great EDC.

Class action gegen Victorinox ?
Press-fit of the metal hinges into cheapo wood did not work in the long run
Inside lid made a bit too big - rubbed the lining off.
We'll see what Victorinox has to say about that.

Mech, what is the damage on yours ?

I'm just experiencing some of the surface materials letting off little chips out of nowhere. As if the lining is disintegrating in thin air.

you mean the grey stuff from the lining ?
Go check to the posts about the green lining on the Wenger Heritage.
Same problem I think.

Luckily far from that madness! Just a few dots so far.

The more people reporting defective cases to Victorinox, and making noise on the forums,
the better chance we have to get decent chests for our knives.
Damn, we all paid a hefty price for them, and should not have to settle with poor quality boxes.

Anyone out there in the same situation ?

Not quite yet my friend.......
I contacted Victorinox and confronted them with pictures of their presentation box, and they replied.
The jury is still out. Stay tuned.

Not quite yet !  Got a return from Victorinox customer service in Ibach :
A replacement presentation box should be made available shortly, at a cost, so far unknown, through the French distributor, Béligné.

Trouble is, Béligné is not a Victorinox subsidiary, but only a licensee, they distribute many brands, they deal only with retailers,
have next to nothing to accomodate the average local private collector, and farm most of the service work out to Ibach.

I did get to speak to a nice lady, though. I should get a quote shortly. I got confirmation they might still have some boxes on hand,
but I do get the feeling it will not be particularly cheap. Anyway, I will pass on any new information for the benefit of other members.

Got this morning a mail from the french Vic distributor.
They confirm that a presentation box could be made available at a reasonable price.
I did point out that IMHO it should come for free, but just between us,
I am more than happy to be able to buy any box in good condition.
And my present box will make an interesting restoration project.

Stay tuned.

In your case (pun intended), a couple of dabs of glue on the straps,
and a couple of model paint mixed into the right colour on the leatherette would fix it.
