Multi-tool with jaws that can open wide enough for a hose?

I realized last night the limits of my multi-tool. And that would be: A hose that's stuck. I had to go to the truck and get an actual pair of slip joint pliers.  So that has me wondering, what multi-tools are out there with jaws that could handle a hose? Is there anything that opens that wide?

Charles.

Knipex 4" Cobras. That's what I use with garden hose.

Garden hose?  Hydraulic hose?  Vacuum hose?  Panty hose?

Nope, I'm not going after Brother Hiraethus's response. Somebody else has to answer here.

Otherwise, I might be tempted to say something about just using my teeth on panty hose and that would probably be deemed inappropriate.

Folding pliers open wide sometimes. The pictured Walther MultiTac is wide enough to hold a bottleneck.

I have used my Wave, SuperTool 300 and Surge too grip a hose end to loosen and to tighten onto a spicket, or a nozzle.

Of course I have XXL size hands, that can grip the handles when extended that wide. Just be careful not to strip the usual brass fittings.

I do prefer a channel lock style pliers, but sometimes I use what is with me, which is one of those three around the home front.
If I start and end the day above ground, it is a good day!

Hope yours is as good!

If it's a hose (water garden? ) then you are home or someplace there is a garage.

So, I vote Channel Locks

I would say,
as Steve hinted,
that the Vice Grip multitools could do that,

mostly the Scrade 5WR (in pic), Schrade 6LC, and Crunch

but I wouldn't bet that the Kershaw A100 (in pic), Gerber Grappler, Schrade ST6 (in pic) can

but if you encounter hoses often and need to have a wide gripping tool, I can second the Knipex recommendation  :tu:

My toys:

MTs: Surge (2x), Skeletool CX, Rebar, Blast, Fuse, Micra, Squirt (3x), Wave, Crunch, Mini, Spirit (2x), Pro Scout, MP700 (2x), Diesel, Powerlock, PowerPlier (2x), PocketPowerPlier, Blacktip , ST6 (2x), 5WR, A100

SAKs: Bantam, Executive, Ambassador, Minichamp, Classic Alox, Champion, Farmer, Explorer, Swisschamp, Golf Tool, Wenger Champ, EVO 52, Pocket Tool Chest

A pic or an approximate dimension would help. You can improvise, if it's too wide. Put some ordinary rubber bands around it, cover them with a rolled towel, twist both ends of the towel together and it should give you enough grip to remove it.

Some more slip-joint pliers & wide gripping MTs:

Craftsman 45471 (relabel of Schrade ST5)

Sheffield 12020  (these are bigger than they look in most photos)
https://www.ebay.com/itm/Sheffield-Multi-Tool-Stainless-Steel-12020-/272899220017

Vise Grip/Schrade 6LC toolbox (Large Capacity locking pliers, also called the "Leg-Iron" pliers, IIRC these are larger diameter than any other MT)

All I have to say is that someone will probably be irritated about needing to buy more pantyhose afterwards. ::)
Hooked, like everyone else. ;)

All hail the hook!

Oooh, the Craftsman 45471/Schrade ST5 looks like the ticket. I can't handle the Sheffield type tool with the sharp bits pointing outward, and I've been eyeing the Schrade Tough Tool for a while, thinking it might be my first butterfly knife. I also like the Crunch very much. Those are two great options.  I'm assuming there are no fixed jaw plier tools that have jaws big enough for a garden hose?

Charles.

As far as fixed jaw tools go, the blunt nose Multimaster may be the closest one to what you need. The jaw opens 1.21" at the back of the fine portion. The MP600BN (like zoidberg pictured) opens to 1.39". That is .18" you need to equal the MP600BN's opening width. I have pictured the area you could grind out to allow the Multimaster jaws to open that much. You'd need to grind out just a bit to achieve this. It would weaken it a little, but not much, hypothetically. Add a little grinding off of the cutter section on the MM and you will have what you need/want.

Funny, the tool I was carrying was a Kutmaster Wrench Head, (a multimaster variant) and it was just nowhere near able to do the garden hose.

I really like the idea of the Craftsman 45471, I think with the slip joint pliers I might even get a comfortable grip on the garden hose, instead of a "barely" grip on it.

Charles.
