I see we are picking up a few new members lately, and I thought that as the guys on the ground floor on a new forum, maybe we should get to know eachother a little.
I am a security speSmurfpillst by trade but after an accident crushed my left foot a few years ago I've been working different jobs since I have trouble walking any distance.  I've managed retail stores, but currently I drive a small truck for local pick up and deliveries.  Not terribly exciting, but it pays the bills, and keeps me solvent while I do silly things like build this and other websites. 
I'm married, 32 years old and I have a fascination with tools and knives, and I can't force myself to buy anything that isn't a decent quality or better, no matter how much cheaper it is.  I carry SAKs and multis, wear a genuine Tilley hat and carry a Fisher Bullet pen.  I am a dog lover, and currently owned by a 70 pound siberian husky, who turned 8 years old in the spring.  The picture below is me, my wife and my two dogs, taken about 5 years ago.  Sadly, the white one in this pic (extra points if you recognized him as a dogo argentino!) is no longer with us after his liver failed at Christmas time.
I have somewhere around 30 multitools, and probably 150-200 SAKs, and maybe 3 or 4 tactical knives.  I used to be a tactical guy, but I always went to the SAK or the Leatherman for the real work- after all, you wouldn't DARE cut a grease covered, steel braided line with a $200 knife and get it scratched and dirty, woud you?   I still have a few fixed blades, but most of them are smaller ones like the Becker Necker, Outdoor Edge Wedge and Cold Steel Para-Edge.  I can't be bothered with huge knives anymore as the local ninja population is quite docile, although I do have an old Cold Steel Master Tanto in San Mai III just in case they decide to rise up again!
I am around fairly often in case anyone has any questions or wants to introduce themselves too.  I know some of you from SOSAK, but there are alot more that I don't know, but would like to.

My name is Fred and I am married with three daughters and a schnauzer.I work as a building superintendant in a small condo comples in Burmingham, and no, I don't love the governor!I don't even know who it is at the moment.
I like SAKs and multi tools mostly since I'm always fixing stuff and need good tools I can relly on.I'm not a knife guy and I don't know what makes a knife tactical but I see that mentioned alot.
I drive a '99 Ford ranger extended cab which is another reason why I carry good tools! lol

Ok... my name is Mike.

I work as a test driver / durability mechanic for DaimlerChrysler.  I'm divorced and I have a 5 year old daughter.  My current multitool interest came to life in a roundabout way.  It started with flashlights (candlepower forums) then moved to knives (bladeforums) then to Every Day Carry (edcforums)  While lurking around on one of those boards, I saw a link to this forum.  So here I am.

I'm really interested in "minimalist" multitools...

That sounds like a pretty cool job Mike!  I have been drooling over those new Calibres and Magnums.  It's nice to see a company still making muscle cars while everyone else is going to those tiny econo boxes.  Of course, ten years ago if you told me Dodge was going to bring back the Hemi and be the only guys producing really nice cars, I doubt I would have believed you.  It's taken a while, but I think they've finally lived down the Omni and K Car!
Of course, I can't complain about D/C since I love Jeeps!  And the TJs are pretty sweet.  I am looking for a second hand long wheelbase model now.
I guess that could be considered another gadget!

I am a retired bomb disposal technician / criminal investigator - USAF and US Government civilain. I currently am an investigator for an International Organization and assigned to work cold cases involving abducted children. I still do some EOD/WMD training for various first responder organizations, as well as private consulting work.

Some days it is a cool job... some days it's just work...  I really like the direction DaimlerChrysler is headed too.  It's funny now to see the other car companies bringing back "muscle" cars now that the 300, Charger, Magnum, and future Challenger are extemely popular.   Oh, and don't knock the Omni.  Still my favorite car of all time (I've owned 3... had about 7 in the family over the years)  I've smashed them up, rolled them over, and beat the living hell out of them.  They kept on running with no problems at all... hehe

I've always liked the Wranglers too.  I just can't get used to the long wheelbase ones.  Plus, it feels like DaimlerChrysler has sinned against the Jeep gods every time I see a new 4 door... hehe

I'm Tim aka FELINEVET. I just turned 60, am married have children that are 41, 37 (ROTOKID) , 35, 23, 20 and 18 and grandkids 18 and 16. I retired from California state government 6 years ago after 36 years, love golf, SAKs, guns and multis. I started a nonprofit corporation to help people pay for emergency vet treatment for their cats (and occasionally other pets) and run the FELINEVET Shop at SOSAK Online and here on MultiTool.org. which is dedicated to raising funds for the nonprofit.

I am stb divorced 48 yrs old semi retired stay-at-home dad taking care of my 3 year old daughter who I have custody of. I breed high end snakes for a living (hey it pay the bills) working out of the home. I do mostly interent sales of rare morphs of kings, milks and ratsnakes. Used to live in Calif and Hawaii and now reside in near Atlanta Georgia. Surfing is my favorite pastime. Now I workout out with weights and dabble in miixed martial arts (jujitzu). I am a big fan of MMA (ie Ultimate fighting/Pride) . Because of this site I have acquired way to many multi tools in a short time and I am just getting started. My hobbies also include small handguns and flashlights.

Hey.... My name is James I am 28 years old. I am married with two step-sons 9 and 13. The younger being the only one interested in multitools. When I was 10 I got my first SAK, I thought it was the coolest thing on earth. Then when I was 17 I went to Europe and saw metal SAK's something I have never seem before, I got a Soilder and carried it everday (I even carried it on the plane ride home, how times have changed) Then one day at a local drug store I saw a LM PST. Since then I have acquried many more multitools. My favorites being LM Charge Ti, SOG PowerLock and ST Spirit,which I am currently carring now. I found multitool.org through SOSAK which I am a member. I am glad to be amongest fellow multitool-heads and friends.

Man, those are some beautiful snakes!  I used to really be into lizards and turtles myself, but I had to find them all new homes when I moved across the country in the middle of winter.  One of these days, when I have more space I'll get more.  Maybe start with another pair of tokay geckos...
Mike- the Omni may have been a reliable car (like the Reliant K) but you'll never convince me that they were anything but abominations on the road!  I realize it was the only thing keeping Chrysler on the map in the 80's, but sheesh!  I have known a few people that had Omnis and I don't think any of them paid more then $50 for them!  I guess for that price they may have been decent...  The long wheelbase Jeeps also seem like kind of a slap in the face, but I like the additional cargo space, as I am certain anyone else with big dogs will agree.  Also, weren't the government regs regarding wheelbase length going to be changed because short wheelbase SUV's were "more prone to rollover?"  The four door, well, don't tell anyone but I think it actually looks kind of neat....

Well I got to be brief, trying to feed a 4 month old as I type this. My name is David Bowen, I'm 30 and work for a grocery store chain as an asst. mgr. I like to collrct tools and knives and am trying to find a happy balance between here and the real world... I don't get on here much. I use to own a TON of multitools but now I mainly have SAKs thanks to Defender. I really have great expectations for this site and feel I have alot to contribute if I can find the time to type it. Hi, I am Helena. I live in the Netherlands with my husband and three year old daughter. Currently, I am a stay-at-home-mom. I used to work as a technical support person, that's where my interest in multitools started. I used to own a Wave (it was stolen) that I absolutely loved. It was just so well made, so nicely finished. It is nice to have products that are made with such great care and attention.

When I searched for the one and only perfect multitool I developed multitoolguide.com, and then I stumbled upon multitool.org. It is great to see that so many people have an interest in multitools. I just wish the manufacturers would follow because clearly that one and only perfect multitool still only exists in our heads. Of course, that's probably just what the manufacturers want

Helena- It's about time you joined up!  I am glad to see you here!  I am hoping that eventually this forum will grow to the point that the manufacturers take close heed of what we are saying and decide to develop new tools with some of our ideas in mind.  I doubt it will happen, but just like the lottery, it's up to us to make the first move!

I'm anothe nut from over at SOSAK, I just bought a new Wave, since my custom built SAK wasn't doing good enough as pliers.  I'm 21, single, male, living in Alaska. I'm a self employed custom knife maker ( www.tigreknives.tk ) . other hobies are muzzle loading guns, motorcycles and 4x4 trucks.

Okay, I joined the site yesterday. I did a brief intro on the "why multi tool?" thread, but I'll give it another go here.

44 yrs. old, grew up in rural Florida. Bruce Lee sent me on a mystical journey when I saw Enter The Dragon back in the 70's. Martial Arts were my first love. As I have gotten older, I have naturally eased into Yoga to stay in shape, along with power-walking. Went in the Navy as a Welder/Firefighter, (they called it "Hull Technician" back then. Got out of the Navy, got married and moved back to Florida. Landed in St. Petersburg, where I have been a cop for 20 yrs. One grown son in the Air Force, the other will graduate HS this year. My wife and I will celebrate 23 yrs. together in April.

I am currently the Sgt. in Charge of the Forensic Unit in the City of St. Petersburg, home of the bottom of the pile Devil Rays and across the Bay from the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Always been a knife knut. I own in the neighborhood of 100 knives. Lotsa tactical stuff. Big Spyderco fan. I find multi tools to be the most useful for me in my current position. I have carried a multi on duty every day for 20 years. Started with Swiss Army knives but segwayed into Leatherman for the Pliers. I love the "Wave" and "Charge TI" for their one hand opening ability. I am one of those people who has actually used a Leatherman for extracating someone from a car. I have unhooked car batteries and even flattend the tires on a bad guy's get away vehicle with my original Leatherman Supertool that my wife bought me many years ago. It remains the best present I ever received. I have since given it to my son in the Air Force.

Hi My name is Duncan I am 34 years old and have a wife and two daughters aged 8 and 10 .We live in a small village on the east coast of England ( UK ) .I work in a factory making double glazed windows which I have to travel about 30 miles each way . I drive a 1992 or 93 BMW 318i ( E36). Also a volunteer crew member for the local inshore rescue service ( lifeboat) and I am lucky as the boatshed is under a minutes walk from my house ( my wife says its my second home  ) .I got my first real SAK at the age of 18 while camping with my father, its a Vic Huntsman and I still have it and its still going strong after alot of use .First plier based multitool was a Leatherman PST and I loved it , thats what really got me hooked . Sold the LM and got a Gerber 600 scout which didnt last long and thats when I got my first Swisstool on the 12th January 2000 always had one ever since, thats when my love for Victorinox started when I realised that little red SAK (Huntsman) had the same name on the blade as the swisstool  and thanks to Def as he has shown me and many others the true scale and importance of victorinox  .Other Multitools that have come and gone are LM Charge Ti ( twice ) and a LM supertool 200 .I have about 15 SAKs and its growing plus a Spirit , the odd Spyderco and an inlay Sebenza ( sorry but cant help smilling everytime i think of it  ) . We have a dog called Baxter who is half Jack Russell and half something else  Just imagine a large white jack russell with brown patch and a wiry coat .I enjoy drinking real Ale and I'm always trying to give up smoking  . Well thats about it really , just please dont ask for any pics of where I live or I will end up boring you for the next 10 weeks  .

I am a retired engineer and author who always enjoyed hobbies.

Started tinkering with electronics at age 12, but lacked decent tools until my 20s. 

My interest in hand tools intensified after graduate school, when I moved to an area which had several great flea markets.  I carried catalogs and price lists from tool manufacturers in a knapsack while roaming the flea markets so I could ascertain in just a few seconds whether the sellers were offering good deals.  Flea market shopping allowed me to amass an assortment of high quality tools and an appreciation for their design.

A related area of interest is fasteners, e.g., different types of screws, bolts, pins, etc., and how improperly used or poorly designed tools can mangle fasteners.

I collected affordable (i.e., non custom), USA-made pocket knives in the 1980s and early 1990s and still have most of them.  Bought my first Leatherman multitool, a PST, in 1991.

I am blessed with a wife who supports my hobbies and carries a few tools and flashlights of her own.

Howdy all,
               This is my first post on here.You might have seen me in another incarnation on SOSAK as Tarmack56,and Blade Forums as Tarmacky where I hung out in the multi-tool forum. I'm delighted to see many names here from the other forums,most of whom opinions I deeply respect.
                I'm Bob,49 turn 50 in less than 2 months,Married for 28 years,retired EMT,father of a 26 yr old daughter and have a 6YR old grand-daughter.I live in extreme southern Ohio,on the Ohio River,right where Ohio tickles KY and WV.My newly re-discovered passion is bycling,and I'll be looking for some advice on tools for that in the appropriate forum.I'm glad to be a board..and you betcha I'll be picking the collective brains here
