Leatherman Wave/Charge T shank saw mod.
on: July 31, 2018, 05:02:03 AM
Always wanted a saw blade exchanger on your Wave/Charge like the big brother Surge? :D

Not really a mod..  :P  A way to use those T-shank blades on the Wave/Charge.

A bit of reprofiling of the saw "handle" and small alteration on the locking area on the tool. Does not affect the locking mechanism in any way.

Holds up very firmly and pretty straight.  ;)

Demonstration.... The saw is a little worn and I am cutting on stainless but it works. Turn down the volume unless you enjoy hearing screeching.....

That looks great Sam  :tu:
So you only have to cut out a bit of the saw blade so it goes in enough to lock into the tool-lock "pockets"?

This is a clearer picture.

The re-profiling will be in this shape.

It will sit in nicely under the lock tab. Btw, It have to be on the side of the handle with the eyeglass screwdriver. This particular tool helps to sit the saw correctly.

Also, the part of the handle near the lock that have to filed down a little to clear the T shank's "wings"...

If anyone were to try this, go slow on the saw blade. If the fit is correctly done, it will sit in snugly in your new found T shank holder.

Impressive - care to tell us what you adapted on the Wave? In any case this qualifies as a mod in my book :tu:

:hatsoff: very small alteration. It's somewhat shown in the last picture. Try to slot the saw in and you will see what's blocking and you will know what to do.  ;)

I just found the above link. Had been done before. Concept is very similar.

So I am just quoting myself..

I had a proper read through on that site. It seems the only thing holding the saw would be the lock tab and every stroke will be pulling just the lock tab. As mentioned in his own site, its a "quick and dirty" method. It should work and its a great idea.  :salute:Mine might be a hair bit more secure as the saw is sitting in the frame and the lock tab is just to keep it there.

Anyone tried?  :)
