how do you dissasemble an SAK?
on: November 27, 2008, 03:08:53 AM
I have an SAK that is confusing me. I cannot find it possible to take the red plastic panels off, and if I did, then I have no idea if I'd be able to put them back on. Any help?

Get a "pokey thing" and slide it into the slot the toothpick/tweezers go in and pull up on it.  It will pop off, and can be popped right back on..hard to explain unless you look at the inside of the scales.

They are only scales bro! You can buy new ones for cheap! But, I highly doubt you will break them anyways. Someone will post a link from SOSAK that clearly explains it. I'm too tired right now!

I see what you're talking about. But, is there a special tool needed to unscrew the hinges on the tool? My pliers won't loosen them.

Those are peened pins...they come out with a drill or punch I belive...I don't mod them but there are a few who ventured into that here who can fill you in..

Handles are easy, but taking a SAK apart gets into a little more work.   You will have to drill the brass out of the rivets a little and use a punch to push the pins out.    The knife will be in lots of pieces and is a little tricky to get back together, but there are lots of good articles on sosakonline.com that show how.    Try to keep everything in order when you dissassemble so you can see how it goes back together!

This isn't my pic but it shows what you end up with when you pull one apart.
