UK / Ireland - Issues buying MT parts on eBay
on: August 10, 2018, 11:51:27 AM
Has anyone else encountered this when trying to order parts for your MT on eBay?

Anyone know a workaround?

Assuming what you are trying to buy is actually legal for you to buy, I'd contact the seller and ask them to list it differently (so it doesn't trigger the ebay "can't buy" process).  It might be as simple as removing "Gerber" or "Leatherman" or "knife" or "blade".  Maybe "spare parts for tool" will get through ?

For some reason, eBay has banned buying and selling certain... sharp things on the UK and Ireland websites....  ::)
Hooked, like everyone else. ;)

All hail the hook!

It seems to be very "hit and miss" I've bought plenty of Multitools on eBay UK, sometimes the listings will just disappear!
Never seen a message like that though!

There is some history to learn here. Some years ago BBC Watchdog TV show did an article where they purchased lots of nasty sharp things from eBay, prime time TV fodder, followed by UK media screaming at eBay "think of the children!!". eBay had a panic attack, rather than deal with any of the issues they just did a complete ban of anything "knife".

Hence not being able to buy any knives on eBay, but you can buy a axe, or a straight razor.   :ahhh

Just to clarify:

What I am trying to buy are:
- replacement pliers
- replacement bit driver
- long Phillips driver
- other small bits and bobs that are not knives

Basically what I want to do, is to modify my LM, by removing the knives and replacing them with other features. Thereby making my LM legal to carry in public and have as many features as possible.

All I really use my LM for are the pliers and screwdrivers, I don’t need it to have a knife in it for when I’m out and about.

My friend tried to buy a book about knives via eBay , no go!

Seriously they couldn’t care less, take your business elsewhere if possible.

Wow, this method of restricting knife sales is rather heavy handed. Like a sledge hammer.
Can't even buy Victorinox SAK replacement scales.

i was just able to buy a sharpener from the same buyer that I was blocked from buying (a knife) from couple weeks ago. Not sure what criteria they use to block one sale and not another. Other then a knife is sharp and a sharpener not so much

I recently sold a Leatherman on E-Bay to a fellow in England. He was blocked using the Buy it now feature but when he made a best offer he was able to purchase it.

I ran into this last week when trying to buy new scales for my fire damaged SAKs. I contacted the seller and he relisted them in a different category which worked out fine. Annoyingly this uk eBay thing actually prevents you even seeing some things. The scales from this seller weren’t visable on his sellers page on ebay uk but on eBay.com his sellers page listed loads of SAK relevant items.

I also mostly use the ebay.com instead of ebay.nl , somehow there is filtering and mostly i cannot find relevant things on the nl version.
Maybe a using a VPN Service would hide the region you are form and overcome the problem.
