Any lefties here?
on: August 19, 2018, 09:07:47 AM
Do we have any left-handed members?

How does it affect your edc? There are some ambidextrous knives, but what about multi-tools and saks? What about implements specifically for right-handed use, like oho blades, scissors, and can openers?

I am surprised no multi-tool offers a left-handed configuration. Wenger had left-handed models

I am right-handed, by the way. Just curious.

Yeah technically left handed and while not completely ambidextrous I am pretty close to it.
EDC wise I have MTs, folders, fixed blades etc with left and right sided pocket clips to balance out or customize the carry as needed.
Liner locks I tend to avoid because I don't like the design, not because they are almost always right sided.
Would I be interested in a lefty compression lock spyderco... oh heck yes.

Watching peeps struggle with sides ie the PX scissors nail nick, really cracks me up.

I am left-handed-ish (write with right hand). I don't EDC, but do use LM Wave occasionally and some pocket knives. On the Wave, I use my right hand to open the outside knife blades, and use the tool with my left hand. I access and use other tools with my left hand. Same for pocket knives with flipping or thumb stud feature, open with right use with left. It is just natural for me that way, though seems redundant.

I am left handed but don’t have a problem using a multi tool or SAK
The only thing I have a slight problem with is the can opener
I still use it left handed but I use it from the bottom of the can
It’s not a problem anymore really just a bit weird  :ahhh
You can see what I mean on the pic  :tu:

I'm mixed handed (ambidexterous would be a stretch), so I write and draw with my left, but do every other thing as a right handed person (throwing, eating with cutlery, playing guitar, whatever). So in this sense I don't have any problems with MT's, but I'm equally curious about true lefties' experiences.

Good to know I'm not alone in this! I used to be able to write with my right hand too but I have sadly lost that skill

I have the opposite way.. Do everything right handed except for writing that is for my left

Yeah, I am able to write with my right hand too, altough never really practiced it, so it's not that nice (but it doesn't require any kind of extraordinary effort or concentration).

I'm left handed. SAKs are strangely the only knives I can draw, open, and unlock and close one handed. So far, the Vic reverse 111mm linerlock and Wenger's Packlock are all I can release without bracing against my leg.   But after 12 years of carrying knives, nothing is really awkward. Though I have noticed that on many traditional knives, my most used blades are those that can be opened left-handed.  It just seems natural to open it right-handed, then hand it back to my left hand for use.  Anything with a clip is on my right side, aside from the couple of knives (both Spydercos) that can be set up for left-hand carry, are carried on my right side.

The only problems I've had are chisel grinds on certain knives and the Wenger can opener.

One day, I swear I'm gonna get one of those Wenger knives made for left-handed people and see if it's any better.

Have you tried the 111mm liner locks?  I'm very right handed, but I can open and close those much easier with my left hand.

I heard that they designed that linerlock so that righties can’t unlock it easily with one hand, to comply with German knife laws that say that knives can be one hand opening, OR one hand closing, but not both.
A consequence is that the linerlock is basically a leftie one hand closing lock, or so I hear.  :D
Rightie one hand opening, leftie one hand closing.
Hooked, like everyone else. ;)

All hail the hook!

I really like my lefty friendly OHT. But I have no problem opening or closing it right handed. Terrible key ring placement though.
