Season 2 has a Tinker in the opening credits, as well as various tiny shots of others when the MacGyver title appears.

Leatherman Rev
Behind the scenes
I have dreamed of the moment we see a Leatherman somewhere in here, even if it's a bts video. But hey, it's real life instead of in an episode.

If a sak appears as a tiny red blob for just a blurry frame or two, I usually do not bother posting them.
Especially if the episode has better scenes of the sak, and most episodes do.
But I post most uses.

I love the difference in the Episode titles between the old series and this new one
Older serials had much more adventurous and "action-packed" titles, the ones in this remake are quite  ??? even though the nodding to Victorinox models and references is obvious  :drink:

The original series had episodes that were more of a self-contained story than the reboot. Even if you watch episodes out of order, it does not matter all that much. It's like every episode is a short movie, and the titles make sense. This changed with the reboot. The overall story arc is more present, so they went with MacGyverisms for season 2. Season 1 titles are silly. It makes the series feel cheap. Although, not all titles of implements are used literally. In some episodes the implement of the title does not get used at all, in others it is a metaphor. It's silly.

If you follow this thread you probably do not mind spoilers all that much, but even so: Spoilers ahead, as I nitpick the plot holes and continuity errors of this episode.

Summary of episode:
In the opening, we see MacGyver offer his Explorer to a monkey, so it loses interest in a detonator it's holding. The monkey takes the Explorer, and drops the detonator. MacGyver goes the entire episode without having a sak, having to use dedicated tools. In the end, it is mentioned that that was the sak his grandfather had given him and Jack gifts a Delemont Evolution S557 to him, so that Mac has a sak again.

A couple of things.
Firstly, the model his grandfather had given him was a Deluxe Tinker, as we see in the flashback in "2x04 - X-ray & penny". Of course, there are a lot of continuity errors in the series, with different models used frames apart from each other during the same sequence. Let's say they messed up and instead of MacGyver offering the monkey a Deluxe Tinker, they filmed the scene with an Explorer. Simple continuity error, right?

Wrong. The episode suggests that MacGyver only had that one sak up to this point. We are told that his grandfather had given it to him, and he had it all this time, and had to sacrifice it, and was left without a sak for the events of that day, and after the mission was completed Jack gifted him a new sak.

Really? Who decided to write this? I am aware of the silly TV science throughout the series, but this makes just as little sense.
What kind of model magically spawns the implement you want, out of the full roster of implements? We have seen a dozen models, and often the implement used is intricate to the plot. Sure, he might use a blade or bottle opener or something on occasion, so it could be any model, but we have also seen implements that only appear in a few models, like the pliers, scissors, file, saw, inline Phillips, magnifying glass, even the light and cigar cutter. How on Earth does it make sense that he was supposed to have one model up to this point? Is he using an enchanted Delemont Giant?

Also, really? MacGyver sacrifices his magical sak, alright let's go along with that, but does he really not have any others? Considering all the different models we've seen? Had he really not bought any other saks, and only had the one his grandfather had given him? Had no one gifted him any, given how much he likes them, and his friends know this? Did he not have any spares in his house, car, or locker at work? Just the one? Did he remain with no sak and go to a mission without paying a visit to any number of stores that sell these?

I realize that this is a silly thing to pick apart, but is it? This is a TV series, but it is not set in a science-fiction universe, or at least, it does not claim to be, like the X-Files, or Star Trek. This is still the "real world", and these are normal people. Does Jack Dalton only have one handgun? Does Riley only have one laptop? Even if we can disregard the different models that have been used, which is itself hard to do, why would MacGyver ever go on a mission without his most trusted tool? How does any of this make any sense?

This is how it would make sense:
MacGyver offers the monkey his Deluxe Tinker that his grandfather had given him. That's it. And do not tell me he only had that one sak. Come on. What kind of sense does that make?

Or, better still, no monkey business. It was silly, and the whole continuity, character, and logic error would not have existed in the first place.

Well, rant over.

Summary: Despite the dozen models we have seen, many of which have been integral to the plot, we are told that MacGyver has had only one knife up to this episode. It was sacrificed and he had no other knife to take to the next mission.

well, at this point that is a plot hole of the biggest magnitude, especially given the amount of SAKs and the protagonism of these particular tools in the show  :dunno:
